Re: Free Beano

I assume it is an attempt to boost sales of the comic and the newspaper as well, its an investment to entice more readers of both the comic and the newspaper I reckon.

The Sunday Mail used to have a pretty good comics section, but I am not so sure these days.

They should have sent Desperate Dan into Nazi-occupied Europe!

Re: I don't know what to call this thread

Now THERE'S a coincidence: A mere three weeks ago, I selected a very similar older-styled bus from the 60s and early 70s to represent the old-school charm I was looking for in order to create a facebook banner for a group made up of folks who grew up in the area of Scotland I was also part of. We ha...

That description appeals to me far more than the reality we have today, Phil!

Re: I don't know what to call this thread

Some things NEVER change, especially old-school architecture. Nice I someone from 1970 had asked me to describe this view almost 50 years into the future, I would likely have said: 'conveyor-belt-like moving pavements where you don't have to walk, jetcars and individual jetpacks used for travel as r...

Re: Political cartoon back in Evening Standard

The style here reminds me of wartime artist LOW a bit and nothing wrong with that!

Re: Political cartoon back in Evening Standard

In fact, I kept the letter I got from the Standard: it was in 2001, a period I was trying out all sorts of different stuff. I still have the cartoons here somewhere, if I find them I will add them@ http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg2/61ROBERTSMITH/eveningstadard%20001.jpg http://i244.photobucket....

Re: Political cartoon back in Evening Standard

I once applied to the Standard as a Political Cartoonist on spec--they seemed to think I had potential but they had more than enough cartoonists on their books at that point.

He certainly deserves a full book-length study, Phil, I am delighted he is being recognized by a wider circle.

Re: Charlie Grigg on TV

I have no TV license so sadly I am not entitled to see this: shame, for once there seems to be something actually worth watching! Too bad-------- Alas stuff like this is still all too rare on the 'proper' channels. Top artist, tough, by any standards. Charlie, Watkins and Paddy Brennan were the abso...

Not that I can ever remember.

Even on Christmas Day, somebody usually posts.......

Maybe just a 'slow news' day.
