Whatever happened to Bill Ritchie?

Now I guess the answer to this is that he either died, or retired...

I loved his 'Baby Crockett' strips for The Beezer. The earlier ones have a 'Ronald Searle' quality about them... very detailed, sometimes quite grotesque.

Anybody know anything about Bill? I know he was still drawing Baby in the ...

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

Give Jamie Smart and David Gaynor the job of redesigning the Dandy. Both fantastic cartoonists.

'My Own Genie' and 'Ted and the Animals' were both fantastic. Kids loved the insanity of them.

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

My children have enjoyed The Dandy because they, like me, love cartooning and cartoon strips make them laugh. They love identifying the artists and are very observant. They've read TOXIC and *quite* liked it, but The Dandy was their favourite.

I'll be getting the Beano for them from now on. They ...

Lew, you and I are going to have to agree to disagree.

You created Tom Thug and know plenty about kids comics. I'm fortunate enough to be in contact with several other fantastic IPC and DCThomson artists (past and present), who have a different view to you. We can't all be the same.

If you re-read ...

Lew Stringer wrote: 'What we, as adults, think of the changes are totally irrelevant.'

Excuse me....

If you're a parent of a 7 year old and an 11 year old then it is TOTALLY RELEVANT what you want your kids to consume (whether it be in print form or on TV, or video game). I have no problem with my ...

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

I just feel Dandy Xtreme is a desperate attempt to 'out-gross' all of its rivals, but compare the quality of the new look Dandy with, say, Toxic (on which it is modelled) and the Dandy just looks cheap, vindictive and unpleasant.

In one week the Dandy has gone from a funnny comic for boys AND girls ...

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

It has to be asked... just how 'Xtreme' can the new Dandy go from here.

If DC Thomson think it's acceptable to create a comic which includes photos of children pretending to eat human faeces, or photo layouts with other kids making fake turds and leaving them on the floor... then where does the ...

Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful... DUMBED DOWN Dandy

The 'exciting' new-look 'Dandy Xtreme'....

OK, I'm not the target audience for this comic (being in my 30s), but my kids are, who I've bought The Dandy for the past 3 years.

Now it includes page after page of 'barfing', 'pimping', 'gross farting ...

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

Rather tellingly, I thought, the teaser for the appallingly-named 'Dandy Xtreme' promises NEW JOKES, NEW COMPETITIONS... but no mention of new characters or cartoons...

I presume the new-style Dandy won't even be a 'comic' anymore. Every other page will be a video game review.

I wonder whether ...

Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

In a depressing move for classic comic fans... but hopefully a positive one for kids... The 70 year old Dandy (the world's longest continuusly running comic) is being re-branded on 2nd August as...

Dandy Xtreme! (Those two words don't go together do they?)

A bloody awful title if you ask me - but ...

The Dandy - My Children's Favourites....

I buy 2 copies of the Dandy each week - one for my 11 year old nephew and one for me... guilty pleasure, I know!

My nephew reads it with his mates and Cuddles & Dimples is their absolute favourite. Desperate Dan is second, Beryl the Peril third. Interestingly the annoying reprints (Class Act ...

The beginning of the end for 'The Dandy' ?

"On a positive note, both Dandy and Beano feature as much if not more original comic pages than they did 40 years ago."

Yes, agreed, more comic pages than 40 years ago, but far, far less comic pages than 5 years ago...

The beginning of the end for 'The Dandy' ?

It's interesting to note that DC Thomson are making very obvious cutbacks across their titles.

The Dandy now has 7 pages of reprints each week, the Beano has 4 pages of reprints. 50% of all Fun Size titles feature totally reprinted material. This is the most desperate situation I've seen in their ...

Beryl back - with Steve at the helm?

When the iconic Beryl the Peril returns to the Dandy in June will the wonderful Steve Bright be drawing her... or, I dread to think, will we be enduring more ****ing reprints?
