Re: Do you remember Pluggy Love in the 2008 annual

I do remember the Plug Love story. I thought it was very poor. The art was below what I would expect from Beano and I just didn't like the story at all. But I didn't like any of Kev Sutherland's work. Mike Pearse on the other hand, I thought was excellent.

Re: Who think's Hunt Emerson's Fred's Bed was rubbish

It's probably just down to personal taste but I didn't like Hunt Emerson's take on Fred's Bed much either but I thought a lot of Tom Paterson's were disappointing as well. I like David Sutherland's version more than either.

new Jim Petrie page?

In the Fatty Fudge article at beano.com there's mention that Jim Petrie might come out of retirement to draw a new Fatty Fudge story. Jim Petrie's version of Minnie the Minx was my favourite thing in the Beano when I was growing up but I hadn't seen any of the Fatty Fudge stories until recently. It ...

Re: Conduct Of Members

I don't have anything really new to add other than that over the last few months I've found myself visiting here less often because of the tone of some of the more recent comments. And I had to stop my kids visiting here unsupervised because I couldn't be sure the posts would be suitable, especially...

Just started Christopher Priest's The Prestige. I saw the film a few years ago, been meaning to read this since.

Definitely not. What do you think? Will there be a bigger cliffhanger tonight?

Picked it up today but haven't read it beyond a quick skim. Looks great, though. I'm sure I actually remember some of the stories.

Suffice to say that change is good, and stagnation is bad, and that the Beano of 2011 is stagnant.
In your opinion, of course. My children disagree.

I'm sure it's Shark Attack - Megalodon. The one with John Barrowman.

Is it still school holidays? his been a member for 2 years so he must be about 7 years old by now. Oh, dear, I do hope Al doesn't ban him, then. We need him to offer the only truly valid opinions on how the Beano is uncompromisingly the best comic that ever was, is or will be. I don't understand th...

Re: This week's issue

Just read this week's issue. Really enjoyed seeing the old beano stories - and the David Sutherland poster was lovely. My own two little menaces loved the birthday Beano. My son liked Gnasher jumping on the birthday cake but my little girl was caught by the old Dennis the Menace stories. So, thumbs ...

Re: This week's issue

I held off on reading the Christmas Beano until today so I could get the full Christmas feeling with it although I've been shot with the snowballl gun quite a bit. It was a really good Christmassy issue. The snow on the titles took me back. The lights and tinsel around the edge of the pages was nice...

Re: Comic Idol returns

I liked the Bea Team story. Glad to see Bea and Gnipper back. Pity it's Harley the pig instead of Rasher. Good to see it doesn't have that dull faded colour of the Dennis stories too.
