Re: Spaceship Away - what do you think of it?

Spaceship saway is a great fanzine but I agree its too expensive cfor me as a regular purchase - still at least it comes out when it should, unlike Comics International (losing patience with this mag  )

Re: Spider

The SPIDER appeared regualrly is the Lion weekly comic \s Sid says - (reptinted in Vulcan) for many years - It was written by and AMERICAN writer who had something to do with Superman (no doubt others more knowledgable will confirm the details) and was drawn by the brilliant Reg Bunn - the character...

Re: Most annoying comic strip

I was never a fan of "SMILER" which seemed popular at the time or "Danger Mouse" from the ODHAMS comics - wasn't keen on strips like Boxatricks (think that was its name) and strips like that with inanimate objects as the hero (chip etc) although Oddball was great? Loved almost everything that Reg Pa...

Re: Commando: Another crazy idea!

Strange how folk don't like their characters to be changed from the versions they remember/grew up with - my girlfiends nephew (14 years old) loves the Nick Fury origianl as wel, thats the Samuel L Jackson "origninal" version becasue that the version he knows. "Our" Nick Fury ( a fantastic character...

Re: karl the viking reproduction

I doubt very much if I would pay £50 for any limited reprint book (of only about 100 pages) - although I admit I would be tempted to look at it if it was reprinting a variety of , for example Leo Baxendales best DCT stuff (BST, Plum, Gobblers, 3 bears etc in colour where applicable) or Ken Reids Od...

Re: What if Victor hadn't folded...

I've always been a fan of the digest sized comic format, and felt there was an untapped market for it - not sure if thats true though for the adventure market as Starblazer ( a great wee comic) folded. Cetainly the Victor had some strong (or is that traditional) characters, but personally I think th...

Re: What comics do you read on a regular basis?

Sidnny - Yes I agree the "original Marvel universe" Spiderman titles are to complex now with 100s of un finsihed story threads and some really poor storys as well. The Ultimate line is far better, like starting over again (if only Gwen Stacy was Peters girlfriend again, all would be righ withthe wor...

Re: Issue numbers - Beano is only five behind Dandy

I think a lot of newspaper strip characters changed more in apperance as the artists style matured rather than in concept etc (ie Garfield, BC etc) However, Mort Walker's Beetle Bailey strip actually changed concept from its original idea to the version we all know now- Originally the character was ...

Re: What comics do you read on a regular basis?

I tend to follow artists and writers now rather than comics titles and do not regulary purchase any original UK comics (pick up the odd one) - However I generally purchase the following: Regularly bought: Comics International Ultimate Spiderman (US version) - great version very well written Conan ( ...

Re: "FWADDAPP!"

Thanks for the link Lew, that issue of Creepy Worlds issue 133 was the first issue of an Alan Class comic that I actually remember getting (although it probably wasn't the first issue I read as my older brother used to get these but I preferred the Beezer etc then) I thought it wasa 70s reprint but ...

Re: "FWADDAPP!"

Hi Raven - thats strange re the Alan CLass comics as I wasn't aware of the Marvel reprints (as in the Superheros - I had the Atlas mystery strips) with one exception a reprint of Avengers No 3 (or there abouts) everytime I picked up Alan CLass they had THunder Agents (with excellent Wally Wood art) ...

Re: 2008 annuals now in Smiths

I remember sending away for the first issue of VIZ after seeing it advertised in Private Eye - got the first issue and thought, frankly, it was total crap - even got a letter a few weeks from the "VIZ lads" sending me my free "ICE CREAM" - .... a paper cut out of an ice cream cone - little did I kno...

Re: "FWADDAPP!"

Hi Raven - I read that Richie Rich had more titles than any other character in comics - over 30 - but many of these were 1 of titles (or 2-3 issues) but I think he had at least 10 regualr monthly titles and as many bi-monthly - quarterly titles at one time (a character I never liked that much as a k...
