No need to apologise for anything, Ray - this is a great feature, enjoyed by all. Any additions/corrections are added in good faith and entirely within the spirit of what you're doing here.

Can't wait! Good work, Mr Gar.
And thanks for the credit on Calamity James. Not sure I earned it though - I can't recall doing more than two or three...about the same as I did on Les Pretend... and Jacky Daw...and one or two others still to come .

Re: The first female artist in a DC Thomson comic.
Tell me about it, I worry constantly about not having enough to worry about  Joking aside, I *do* worry about gender opening doors that might not otherwise be opened. No matter what advantages it offers, it does make it hard to have faith in your actual abilities. But, I like to keep in mind ...

You're not alone, Laura - I never quite got it either...and I used to draw it for a while.LauraH wrote:Hi-five, Steve
Can anyone tell me a bit about this new strip? It's obviously a reprint, but I've never seen it in its original form and I don't quite "get" it...

Re: Why do old characters get new names/speech when reprinted?
I suppose sometimes references are bought up to date, as the readership are going to be young, so references to celebrities/culture/trends of the 70's or 80's will mean nothing to them. "Cheesy" old catch-phrases would need changing too, as well as references to obsolete technology (not always with...

Re: 70 years of Desperate Dan
In the entertainment field, a lot of violence and prejudice today is taken out on 'hapless' ALIENS from other planets: in comics or films, the modern trend has been to BLAST them to kingdom come, 'coz it doesn't really offend anyone; HOLLYWOOD in particular is guilty of presenting this ad-nauseum; ...

Re: The first female artist in a DC Thomson comic.
It's a mystery to me why comic art in this country is such a male-dominated occupation, other than my theory that boys never really want to grow up fully, whereas girls have more important things to worry about as the years advance. The only other female artist I can recall making very minor inroads...

Re: The Beano Top 100.
It'd be nice to have some script-writing credits going on also, but since that unsung skill was often rotated at regular intervals among the office staff, it would be a bit of a nightmare to compile, even if the information was willingly given. So I'll just content myself with saying, if I recall c...
