New Look Crikey! Magazine Out on Thursday

The new and improved Crikey! will be on sale from this Thursday from all the usual outlets, plus branches of Borders and selected newsagents. The cover price is still the same but everything else is new and improved as the page count rises from 48 to 84, and we're now in full colour throughout. Feat...

Re: Collecting Long runs

I have complete runs of Doctor Who Magazine and, dipping briefly into American stuff, Avengers, as well as various shorter series including Star Lord, Tornado, Revolver, Crisis, Cheeky, and a lot of American stuff. I'm missing about two dozen issues of 2000AD from the mid 90s, when I gave up on it f...

Re: What Comic Would You Like Out There?

Revivals of Star Lord or The Daredevils, for me. Two of my all time faves. Or Eagle.

Re: Things that only ever happen (and happen a lot) in comics

Post war austerity did very much linger on in the '70s in the way parents (who'd lived through those years) brought up their children, though - but it's probable that those comic traditions started during that earlier period and just stayed around. Something to do with the age of the writers, too, ...

People actually saying 'ho ho ho' when they laugh. And also 'chuckle' and 'snigger'.

This seems to be the case. Scheduled to end on the 18th, according to Pete. :(

Re: The Times Top Ten Football Cartoons

I think it's decidedly unfair that Billy Dane got in. The talentless little berk couldn't play football to save his life without his haunted boots! Surely, if anyone should have gotten that particular slot it was the late Deadshot Keen, the phantom footwear's original owner?

Re: Striker

I thought it odd, since today's strip is set during a pre-season friendly. So you're saying today's strip should've appeared on Saturday. I've known Champions League matches to use the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday strips, followed by a Premier League game in Saturday's, but Monday is never actual...

Re: Striker

Just to add: the omission of Striker on Saturday was an error on The Sun's part, they've decided to drop the full page football strip on Saturdays but someone screwed up and thought they weren't supposed to run the next installment of the actual daily strip there either (which was the original idea).

Re: Striker

I just tried to send them an email about it, and it rebounded in seconds! "Permanent error, full mailbox" and some other jargon - basically, undeliverable. The only day Striker is supposed to be absent is Sunday. And I bet The Sun doesn't print an apology tomorrow... :( I'll be more interest...

Nope-I noticed its absence but I'm as much in the dark as you.

Re: Striker

Li Ming's withdrawn Warbury's finance, that's what I meant by trouble. Clubs in that situation in reality often fail to pay their players (not happened to a Premier League club yet, but surely it's only a matter of time) - if Roman Abromovich withdraws funding for Chelsea, the same thing will happe...

Re: Striker

All reference to The Premier has now been removed from Striker, as Joe Rock has been written out - he was sold to an unspecified club. Recent plots make it sound like Warbury Warriors are in major trouble. A lesson for Chelsea perhaps? Pete Nash talks to Crikey! in issue #11, on sale in three weeks...

I still have that preview comic. Not sure I ever saw any other actual issues, though.
