Re: TOTP 2 tonight.

Tonight the BBC are showing a TOTP Christmas special with all our favourites - Wizzard, Slade, Shaky etc. But on radio five live this morning Nicky Campbell interviewed a former cameraman from the show. He has had a video tape of David Bowie singing Jean Genie for 38 years (not seen since then) and...

Re: Art spotters this way!

Dreamticket, your two guesses are bang on. Neville Wilson drew the Thief Taker (his style is so easy to recognise when you can see a face that he has drawn) and Bert Vandeput drew The Golden Goals of Johnny Jackson. The Slowest Gun In The West is Terry Patrick and drew most of the modern Black Sapp...

Re: Favourite Covers (and story illustrations)

...I'd agree with that. Couldn't dig it out to provide a scan. Here's another favourite Wizard cover for the time being. Wizard_15_03_1975.jpg And that is one of Carlos Ezquerra's rare works for DCT. It is a beauty isn't it? I'm gobsmacked! Just didn't see that at all. Of course, now that you menti...

Space-Kid Kelly

Can anyone name the artist on this hotspur strip from August 1974? I found the style to be a bit out of place in the Hotspur of the time which is why I'm posting this separate to the other scans uploaded today.

Re: Art spotters this way!

Also from The Hotspur, July 1970 this time, we have Skyboy. This is a completely new character for me, so I'm not just looking to find out who the lovely art is by, but who wrote it, is it a reprint, and were there any more series? skyboyhotspurSept1970.jpg Again from The Hotspur, Sept. 1970 this ti...

Art spotters this way!

Hello everyone. I'm uploading a stack of stuff today to keep you art spotters busy over Christmas and New Year. I think nothing here is too obscure, except one which I might post separately. Take a look and see if you recognise any of the artists. This first is from The Hotspur, November 1975. Someb...

Re: Football season 2011/12

I thought United were poor in Europe all this season, and wasn't surprised by the result. I was expecting Chelsea to crash out as well but they surprised me by winning 4-0. I think Tottenham need a Lyon-esque miracle to progress in the Europa league, and are probably better off out of it considering...

Beano on this morning's Rip Off Britain (BBC1).

Did anybody else see this? I don't normally watch this program, but was late up and it happened to be on. A grandmother who gets the Beano for her grandson complained about having to pay extra for the issues with gifts attached. The editorial reply quoted the usual excuses -- can you guess what they...

Re: The storypaper returns! (or an updated penny dreadful)

I think the format may well have been the right size and price if I could have got them in shops (cheap and handy for the back pocket on the bus). But unfortunately, the shops wouldn't even consider that format. I'm about to publish an essay about British comic shops and how they have multiple copi...

Re: Just Books

It's been a bad year for me bookwise. I've just finished a rare book on comics -- Masters of Fun and Thrills vol.1, by Norman Wright and David Ashford. This reprints some of their articles on British comic creators that appeared in BMC. I'm assuming there's a second volume somewhere, but I've yet to...

Re: Thriller Comics Omnibus edition

I think at 20 pounds a shot I'd be better off buying the handful of originals I'm interested in. I'm surprised these things haven't reappeared in some legitimate form recently. A hardback volume of Sep. Scott's Captain Flame stories to ride on the wave of popularity for all things piratical generate...

Thriller Comics Omnibus edition

I was wondering if anybody here has picked up any of these, and if so what is the quality of the reproduction like? I'm assuming they've been shot from copies of the comics themselves and not the original artwork. It's a lot of book for twenty pounds, but can't make up my mind about buying one. http...

Re: Rugby world cup.

Are we all agreed that France will lose badly? Ireland's defeat of Australia ruined the seeding, which intended that Australia would have won the group and faced Wales, Ireland playing South Africa. It was never intended that it should be the best of the Six Nations against the best of the tri-nati...
