Weekly News to cease publication.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the headline today. I've been buying it for fifty years although it has been hard to find in the past few. Only yesterday I received three vintage issues from eBay two of which had Black Bob strips. It was nowhere near as good as it used to be as it had lost a lot ...

Re: Restoration

If you mean physical restoration I repair edge tears with a thin piece of magic tape which is virtually invisible once applied. Also if a spine is frayed I cut the spine from a newspaper and pritstick it around the area. The newsprint will, over time, yellow and match the comic. I also keep a set of...

Re: Micron Combat Library

Just checked Commando on GCD and pleased to see almost every issue has been indexed. Someone has been busy. It takes me over an hour to index a single British comic issue when they have twenty or more different strips like Whizzer and Chips.

Re: Micron Combat Library

I must admit when I saw these the first person I thought of was colcool. GCD has them as digest size but they look like American comic size. I presume they are slightly elongated like the Pearson libraries?

Mort Drucker dies

Mad magazine artist Mort Drucker has died aged 91. He was responsible for their film and TV spoofs with his excellent caricatures. I also came across some strips by him in fifties Atlas comics. I've always had a soft spot for Mad.

Re: Beryl the Peril and the Numskulls in the Funday Times

The Saturday Daily Telegraph also ran a comic for a while but I can't remember the content. The Funday Times did run Stingray and Thunderbirds strips and also Bananaman I think. I have a few dozen issues.

Re: Beryl the Peril and the Numskulls in the Funday Times

What I should have said was give me the artists names here and I'll fill them in as you need to have put cover images onto GCD for a while before they let you index. Well it's something to do during lockdown.

Re: Beryl the Peril and the Numskulls in the Funday Times

I've indexed the 1970, 1971 and 1973 Beano Summer Specials onto Grand Comics Database this week and am waiting for them to be approved. Once they are I'd appreciate it if anyone could fill in some missing artist names. I'm sure everyone's aware that some strips in annuals and specials were drawn by ...

Re: Beryl the Peril and the Numskulls in the Funday Times

I kept some Sunday Times Beryl pages as they were by David Law and in full colour and I wasn't sure if they were originally in colour. There was a box full of Funday Times sections in the flea market a few weeks back but I passed them up. It would take someone with a vast Topper collection and a lot...

Re: Phoenix's Future Plans

I was alluding to Aurora mainly but remember you mentioning another. I know you don't have daughters but wasn't sure if the "girls" were nieces or grandchildren.

The article mentioned new Mallory Towers books by a different author featuring the younger sister of the original main character.

Re: What are you reading during the lockdown

Yes the art style was nothing like that from Trevor that we easily recognised in the seventies. Actually I asked my mate Steve to consult his Dandy Monster Index by Kashgar for the issue numbers as mine is in storage.
