Re: Vintage Pre-War Beano & Dandy Comics

Wow that was quick. Thanks. I have to say I'm enjoying indexing British stuff onto GCD. I find Thorpe and Porter type annuals on eBay and sometimes they show the contents page and away I go. With regard to cover images I learned early in that if your image isn't perfect you should tick the "mark for...

Re: Vintage Pre-War Beano & Dandy Comics

Al, perhaps you could oblige by putting those covers onto the Grand Comics Database. I'm going to out those two Beanos on if Into the Abyss doesn't mind.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Some people think if it's an old comic it must be worth a fortune. While you're here, Derek, I just got back from Deptford flea market where I saw an Adventure Book For Girls. I always think of you working on your latest book when I see something of that ilk. They had a Sports Book for Girls too.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Another seller had well read issues of Warlord, Spike, The Crunch and Buddy at £15 a copy which I resisted.

Sadly Lew got into an argument with another member and quit this site. Since then the number of posts has reduced. We all wish Lew would come back. The offending member left too so no reason for Lew to stay away.

Re: Marvelman and Young Marvelman [Key Notes]

I remember my dad bringing the occasional copy home in the sixties. He worked in the docks so maybe they were used as ballast.

Re: Marvelman and Young Marvelman [Key Notes]

Grand Comics Database has quite a few covers but not many indexed issues. I presume you're taking about the 1950s Miller issues?

Re: Jumping Frog

I got the quote from one of the issues from my vast collection of real West type magazines. Don't forget Bob Hope's other westerns Fancy Pants and Alias Jesse James which had the famous faces appear in the final shootout: The gunfight scene at the end of the film features a number of cameo appearanc...

Re: Jumping Frog

It reminds me of a wild west story where an eastern dude tries to impress some locals in a tough western saloon by showing them his Derringer. One of them says "If you shoot me with that thing, and I find out about it, there'll be trouble".

Re: Jumping Frog

Can someone assure me this was not a free gift with the Dandy? I presume The Dandy written on it refers to the person who would have carried it in the wild west. Guns were more likely to have been given away with boy's papers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-toy-pistol-free-gift-with-the-Dandy-co...

Re: Some help with a Princess magazine

My mate Steve checked his copies and sent this reply: I have looked at issues between 1960 and 1964 and there are no tennis stories. I don’t think there is any point looking at later issues given Goolagong’s age. She probably meant Bunty.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Kempton Park antiques fair is back on July 7th. Just hope I can find my way there with my hair down over my eyes. Barbers will be a madhouse next Saturday week.
