Re: DREDD (2012)

I wish the film companies would take into account how many people have some form of defective vision and can't see in 3D properly.

Judging from the people I talk to, there seems to be quite a few - in my case it was probably a result from reading too many comics when I was a kid...

Re: Should Comic Artists Sign their Work?

I'd be curious to know if any of the pro artists who've responded to this thread have ever landed any extra commissions as a result of signing their work - if it's not too personal a question?

Re: Alan Moore on Hard Talk

Alan Moore (along with Frank Miller) was the golden boy of the American comics industry at that time. Watchmen would have had to be absolute tripe for it to have bombed, and DC would have known that.

Re: Alan Moore on Hard Talk

Is it just me, or can anyone else recall that DC said the Watchmen Graphic Novel would be kept in print indefinitely even before the comics were released?

In the clouds of my memory, I'm sure I read that in the late Martin Skidmore's "FA" fanzine donkey's years ago, but I could be wrong...

Re: The Sunday Funnies

McScotty: I'm pleased to say that both Gosh and Travelling Man contacted me to say they had copies and I'm currently ploughing my way through the first three issues. As some of the strips are at the start of their runs (such as "Gasoline Alley") they aren't fully developed yet, but it's a fascinatin...

Re: Marvel Graphic Novel collection

There's three or four of them I like the look of, too.

Is this the kind of thing that turns up in bargain bins a few months after sale?

Re: Issue 1

The lady in the shop seemed pretty knowledgeable about it and Travelling Man do have a children's section so I think they do want to stock it. If we ("yer typical comics fans") want to get the UK comics industry moving again then we should at least check it out before we decide we don't like it.

Re: The Sunday Funnies

McScotty, by "book" do you mean the huge tome that was realeased about 20(?) years ago, or "comic book" as in the new 32 page comics Cochran is panning to release?

The Sunday Funnies

Apologies for asking yet another question about American comics (I like comics from pretty much everywhere, but with a slight preference for British products) but I reckon a few people on this forum might be interested in this. Does anyone know where I can get Russ Cochran's new publication "The Sun...

Re: Issue 1

Apologies if this has already been mentioned (this thread is 10 pages long, so it would take a while to read it all!), but I popped in to Travelling Man (Manchester) today and they said they wanted to stock it but there were problems getting hold of copies! If that's the same at every comics shop th...

Re: Watchmen DVD?

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

The Ultimate Cut can be bought from Amazon UK for £11.00 + £1.85 postage (from USA). I have a region 1 player and as it seems this version won't make it to the UK I might just give it a punt.

Started re-reading the comics too - for the first time in about 20 years.

Watchmen DVD?

I know this is primarily a UK comics forum, but I saw the first half-hour or so of the Watchmen movie on Film 4 last night, which I enjoyed when it was released. Was a UK DVD ever released which included the Director's cut AND The Tales of The Black Frieghter segments edited into it as one long narr...

And just to throw another contender (and viewpoint) into the ring - many years ago there seemed to be a lot of talk about Popeye being the first superhero.

Re: Strip Magazine - Who's buy the first issue?

Well, Google does link to definitions and etymologies from several dictionaries, including Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.Com and The Free Dictionary, so if they include it and yours doesn't, maybe they are! I am not averse to looking things up on the internet, Raven, even though you clearly think I'm...
