Re: Looking for first appearance of Miss Bigger
I had a boy in my class at primary school who came from the local 'orphanage'. It was a place where children, from what were termed broken homes, were housed but it still got called an orphanage. He was only at our school for a few months so I'm not sure how his life worked out. His name was Douglas...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
When these were first published we made quite an extensive list of corrections of the errors these books contained on this site. Much to the annoyance of one of the writers if memory serves.

Re: Gordon Livingstone Art for Women and Girls.
Hi Col, The first two of Thomson/Lengs digest sized women's mags were Golden Heart Love Stories and Love and Life Library first published I think, if memory serves, in 1957 and they were followed a year later by their companion titles Silver Moon Romances and Blue Rosette Romances. These four eventu...

Which titles would you like to see indexed?
If any comic/adventure strip title could be indexed, which hasn't yet been done, which would it be and what form would you like it take? I ask because I have a Victor Index in the planning stage but as such things are very time consuming to produce, particularly if you want to do a half decent job, ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
It hasn't arrived yet but I'm really happy with the purchase of issue #1-42 of Tiger from 1954/1955. I've been after #1 for ages and have narrowly missed it a couple of times in the last 6 months alone so to get a whole run is brilliant. My completist nature is saying that I've got the most difficu...

Re: Phoenix's Future Plans
I know you don't have the time or space but i personally would love to see a small synopsis on every series they done in all comic titles from a history point of view for future generations etc, Oh, wouldn't we all Bri! But such enterprises can be extremely fatiguing even if all of the relevant inf...

Re: Overlooked early children's comics
The original series Sunny Stories for Little Folk was first published in 1926 and was edited by Enid Blyton who also contributed to the content. It became Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories in 1937 until she left the publication in 1953.

Re: Preview Wizard issue.
The whole problem of copyright or 'trademarking' had started for Thomsons with 'Adventure' a single, common word title which was impossible to effectively make exclusively their own and which in turn led to problems when it came to publishing an annual connected to the title in the autumn of 1923. A...

Re: Preview Wizard issue.
Hi Steve, This 4 page Wizard preview was created by Thomson's as a way of attempting to legally 'trademark' the Wizard as a title. The contents, which were borrowed from their women's titles, were used to hide the true nature of what the finished product intended to be to competitors and the date on...

Re: Tiger dating and numbering
Hi Tiger 258,
There was another issue published between June and Aug 1959 which was labelled issue A. This is the issue you have missing and explains the gap you have in story continuity. All AP titles in 1959 had this issue A and the undated issue which were published during the strike period.

Re: Ron Smith RIP
It is always sad when great artists, or indeed writers, pass away, but in the case of Ron Smith, I suspect that Ray Moore could well be more upset than most folk outside Ron's immediate family, given that Ron illustrated Kashgar The Terrible , the title in The WIZARD in 1961/62 from which I feel ce...

Not that Phil's identification warrants further confirmation but 'The Conway Cousins' is certainly the work of Eric Parker.

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
Someone says the word was used in Steptoe and Son. No explanation to be found save that it comes from Victorian times. I've heard conkers used many times in regards to cash but I'm also unsure where it came from. I also lived in South East London for a decade so it could be local. Money being refer...
