Re: Dr Mel Gibson's "Remembered Reading": book abt girls com

Well now! It turns out that "No Time For Pat" is in a Jinty after all, but not as a weekly story - it's in the only annual we haven't yet covered - the 1980 one! I do have a copy of this I think so will go back and check again. Catawiki comes up trumps with answering this question. I do also want t...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

nothing wrong with trying to make an honest buck as they say, but sometimes you can see some crazy prices sought for things on e-bay, here's my favourite at the moment http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Collection-8-Issues-Adventures-Of-The-Galaxy-Rangers-Comics-Marvel-1988-Rare-/181818385523?hash=item2a553...

Dr Mel Gibson's "Remembered Reading": book abt girls comics

I've just received a review copy of Dr Mel's new book, " Remembered Reading ". It looks like a corker to me, though I will warn that it is an academic book and therefore a) priced accordingly and b) written accordingly style-wise. I did flick back to the index and other pages at the end, and found s...

It clearly provided a great grounding - Jenny McDade in particular will have benefited a lot from writing comics when she later went into screenwriting, as they have a lot of similarities.

Re: WHY WAS JINTY CALLED JINTY?

Resurrecting a very old thread here! The earlier issues of Jinty had a masthead figure of a girl with blond pigtails and a big smile, and she signed herself as Jinty - so while the stories inside didn't feature any girls called Jinty, there was a girl figure that the introductions purported to be wr...

Thank you Helsbels! That would be great, really great. No immediate hurry from my point of view but it's always best to strike while the iron's hot I know :D

Re: Douglas Perry (girls' comics 1970s-1990s?)

I am resurrecting an old thread I know, but just to add that Douglas Perry drew a few nicely spooky stories in Jinty. He did a few Gypsy Rose stories; however I am particularly thinking of two stories, "Come Into My Parlour" (mind control by a very evil witch - see cover linked to here ) and "Shado...

Did anyone download a copy of the Capaldi article as a PDF? The Mistycomic portal link has been down for quite some time and I've never managed to read the article.

Re: The Happy Days (Sue Day)

Jenny Butterworth really doesn't get enough credit for her excellent scripts which never once dipped in quality over hundreds of episodes of the Happy Days! That's very interesting, Phil. We don't know many writers of the Jinty stories, particularly not that many female writers - what reference hav...

Mike Knowles

Has posted on a thread on John Freeman's Facebook, saying he wrote a few girls comics stories. One of the stories he mentions is "Melody Moffatt", which he describes as a pop-singing secret agent. I can't find a reference to this story on Lorrbot's blog under Mandy or Bunty, which are the two titles...

Re: Mental health issues in stories (taken seriously)

I think mental health issues of one sort or another - more realistic or less so - have clearly been a strong driver / plot point throughout many years. They give a good story-reason for all sorts of excesses - cruelty, neglect, obsessive behaviour. What I mean by them being taken seriously, I think,...
