Re: What comics did you buy today?

I got into a conversation on Facebook with someone whose mother has got 68 copies of Sandie comic - the very ones kept from her youth, as *her* mother (the grandmother of the woman I've been in communication with) stored the comics for all those years since then! The family in question wanted to sel...

Re: Maria Dembilio

Oh thank you! I will send it on. I'm not really sure whether he wants more or not - given that he would have to translate it all, if I send him much more then it would take quite a long time for him to get through, so I think I will send him this episode first and see what he says (and hopefully tha...

Maria Dembilio

I have had a request from a Spanish contact as to whether I could supply any scanned stories by Maria Dembilio. The contact in question (Jose Ruiz del Amor) is in contact with the artist and would like to be able to translate one of her works and send it on to her as she is still around to enjoy it....

Re: Beano to get CGI revamp for YouTube generation

Both of you, how old are your kids? They're obviously aiming at a pretty young target audience. My youngest, who I mentioned above, is 5 and eldest is 7. They've both recently started watching CBBC more than Cbeebies, but probably my youngest is doing that because he's led by my eldest. I would sus...

Good going for the Phoenix! By which I mean in this case David Fickling and co in Oxford rather than our own Phoenix :-)

Never a truer word spoken.

My youngest has been liking it! But I haven't been watching it myself though.

Re: Spanish artists working in the IPC/Fleetway stable.

One quick point to make (thanks to David Roach for the info) is that the Spanish artists weren't actually doing it on the cheap, though that was the impression that British creators got at points. The Spanish artists were brought in to fill demand because the number of pages that had to be drawn eve...

Re: 300 issues strong

Yes, good old The Phoenix - it has kept going, is full of great stuff, and has built up a loyal audience. And pays its contributors reasonably, though not along the lines of the riches that the big name creators of the comics glory days were paid by the sound of it... The fact they do book reprints ...

Re: Battle picture weekly - Terror Behind the Bamboo curtain

A while back, I commented on Battle Stations, Battle's letter page, through which readers recounted a forefather's quirky tale from both world wars. On re-reading Battle's 17th May 1975 cover-dated issue, wherein Battle Stations began in earnest, I discovered that the first "true" star letter of th...

Am not surprised to hear it - it's a stereotype that gets a lot of outings! Scooby Doo made lots of use it too.

Re: Phoenix's Future Plans

Just to let members know, I am currently experiencing high stress levels, mainly self-inflicted I suspect. I really cannot believe how tired I am. Yet I was only alerted to this in a post by big bad bri a week or two back. I simply hadn't noticed the signs so I'm grateful to him for flagging the ma...

Re: Girl with the Power

In terms of it being a Source Book, what are your thoughts or expectations about availability? You kindly sent me copies earlier of previous works but will these new books be on sale generally, and if so via what channels? Where my first two books were concerned, Jenni, there were three actual sale...
