POW! SOCK! It's Batman '66! How to do digital comics right.

Is your favourite iteration of Batman the Adam West caped crusader, rather than the post-Miller Dark Knight? Which you could read a comic with a light-hearted sense of fun that's not grim, gritty or sweary? Want to see digital comics done well? Then I recommend Batman '66 , currently being published...

Re: The Beano 75 years issue whats inside...its guessing tim

Regarding their availability on eBay, here's a stab in the dark... were they printed by BGP? Would explain how copies could be in the wild in Oxfordshire...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Wow, the Works must've changed their buying policy, they usually get stock in long after the release date. For example, they currently have Classic Beano and Dandy Celebrate Dennis the Menace - which is technically a 2012 annual! And no, they didn't have it in 21 months ago, for some reason, while ...

Re: The Beano 75 years issue whats inside...its guessing tim

Presumption? Nika's post in the thread I linked to implied at least one Dandy character, and we have confirmation that two strips from BeanoMAX will end up in the weekly sometime in the next month - the anniversary issue happens to be exactly four weeks after the last issue of BeanoMAX. And what el...

Has Strip's Facebook page disappeared? Can't seem to find it... Worrying.

Re: STRIP Rant

Just made a hopeful yet fruitless* trip to WH Smith. Trying not to be cynical bit at this point I don't think I'll ever see Strip #2.2, at least not in paper form. *I say it was fruitless, but I did pick up the new Prog and Meg. Almost got The Beano but the only copy they had was mangled beyond repa...

Re: New Beano Comic!

Aw, always sad to see a comic go, even one I don't read (though I suppose it's probably more of a rebranding than a closure). The only copy of Beano MAX I ever bought was the first - might also buy the last to go along with it.

Re: Free four page Beano with Time Out

As for the product placement. It's sponsored by MasterCard. The whole thing. Without them no festival no Beanotown exhibition no strip in Timeout. My first proper strip was an advert for toys. The whole thing was product placement. I embraced it and did the very best I could with it. The Bogies str...

Re: Free four page Beano with Time Out

MC...product placement is nothing new and, it seems, a necessary 'evil'. But in a kids' comic? Ah, but Time Out is an adult publication Yes, erm, good point, me. But! It's a free publication that Beano-fan kids could easily pick up (or see their parents' copy). I am not against product placement pe...

Re: Free four page Beano with Time Out

Hmm, not sure about that. Beautifully drawn, obv, but a couple of surprisingly risque jokes for The Beano. And the M*****C*** sponsorship/product placement makes me feel queasy. Ick. "C'mon kids, get into debt you can't afford to pay off!"

I wish that Time Out insert didn't exist, basically.

Re: Ebay and Comics

Off topic BUT interesting (to me)... Steve - I totally know what you mean about social anxiety. I am terrible at approaching people and as I know no-one else who likes comics, if I want to go to a comic convention or similar I have to do it alone. It takes a while for me to be comfortable enough to ...

Re: STRIP Rant

I share your pain. It's claimed over on the 2000 AD forum that the reason for the shortage of issue 7s is that they ran a Moebius strip (heh, no pun intended) that they didn't have the rights to... I'm worried about Strip, what with its non-appearance in newsagents and #2 and #3 being left out of Pr...

Re: Laura H's new character from Topper...

I hope Meebo and Zuky return. I always thought they were an example of what The Beano SHOULD be doing - creating new characters with the tastes of today's kids in mind. Plus seeing such graphic (cartoon) violence in the once-safe pages of The Beano tickled me for some reason!

Re: Prog 1830 - Retro Cover

Funnily enough my local WH Smith's kept last week's issue on sale alongside the new one. Presumably they thought it was either a Special or a different comic altogether! Ha, they did the same in WH Smith in Manchester Piccadilly station! It'd be nice if they did another retro cover in a few years' ...

Re: STRIP Magazine relaunches next Monday! (April 8th)

I'd be surprised if it's on the shelves before next Wednesday/Thursday. I'd love to be proved wrong though... and hey, at least it's not as late as (the now quarterly) Clint! :)
