Re: Good No.1 Comic Covers

My biggest gripe with the cover of 2000AD #1 was that when you removed the space spinner there was literally nothing under it but some big blue circles. Even as a kid I can remember complaining to my dad that they could at least have had some art under it, could have been anything! A strip, a Kool p...

Re: Fanzine Archive Launched

What a great site!

Awesome to see some of the old BEM issues, my dad used to draw a strip for it and had lots of spot illus in that and other titles.

Look forward to seeing future updates!

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

That is exactly my take on it too. Good, cheap entertainment. I very fondly remember my dad taking us kids to the shop on a Saturday for us to pick out our comics for that week. My sister and I had an understanding that while the comics that we bought would belong to us the other person would also b...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

That's true up to an extent. But then in America the price of comics stayed static at 10 cents for decades. Even in this country, comics were very affordable for me as a nipper when I got 50p a week pocket money in 1978. I used to buy quite a few comics out of that. Beano, Dandy, Buster, TV Comic......

Re: What comics did you buy today?

You think? Put it this way... every TV21 & 2000AD cover is easily placed into a certain period of time and I'd have a good shot at naming the exact number just by the front cover. Can you do that with TV Comic? I'd have no chance. Its the same for any comic that has a full strip on the cover and kee...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I guess but I'm kinda old school...

If anything is over 50p I take a sharp intact of breath and hear my fathers voice moaning... "£xx for that???!!!"

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I dunno if this counts, but I saw the third Willy the Kid book at a charity shop today. Iirc it's the hard one to find, had a nice dust wrapper on it. They were asking £12 which I thought was steep so I gave it a miss.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Oh gosh I know! It wasn't on my list of must have comics as a kid in the 70/80s - they were Buster, Whizzer n Chips and then 2000AD. But I did get bought the occasional issue and I always quite liked it - Mighty Moth and TV Terrors always were my favs - I think in TV Terrors I liked the way the Comm...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Wasn't today, but this month I picked up the whole run of TV Comic featuring full colour Dr Who covers (#788-809), plus the first Dr Who colour centre which is also the first Avengers (#720). edit - I've also just realised this is my first post here in over a decade of lurking... better late than ne...
