Re: New Comic Magazine hits the stands

None of these are similar to what I was saying. Tales of Suspense was Iron Man and Captain America every week with half an issue. Tales To Astonish was the same with Hulk and Giant Man, (then Sub-Mariner). Quite different to the irregular four stories or so, made up of A-listers to Z-listers that co...

Re: New Comic Magazine hits the stands

Yes, Tales to Astonish worked in the 1960s, anthology comics worked in the 1940s. They haven't worked in more recent times though. Tastes change. When was it last tried? My only recollection is Dr Strange and Cloak&Dagger* - basically a B-Movie character carrying very minor characters. Quite differ...

Re: New Comic Magazine hits the stands

I've always thought a revert to the 2xcharacter that Tales To Astonish or Tales of Suspense* could work with the right character mix . That doesn't mean the Dr Strange/Cloak&Dagger mix, which was never going to work, or even Batman & Nemesis, which is just shoe-horning in a lesser character. Mixes t...

Re: What if the Fantastic Four hadn't stopped Galactus?

There's a bit of tidying up to do re: the 'comicstrips' button in both the black left-hand column and in the reviews that default to the home page. I'll alter them soon as I finish my Xmas hols. The blue buttons under the title are all correct mind you. So, to read any comic strips, just click on th...

What if the Fantastic Four hadn't stopped Galactus?

For the first time in creation, Galactus was denied! Through the actions of the Watcher, the Human Torch was able to retrieve the Ultimate Nullifier and dissuade the Planet Devourer from destroying Earth. But what if the Watcher had kept to his oath of non-interference? What if the Fantastic Four ha...

Re: Matt Smith as Dr Who

Finished watching it last night. What a pile of sentimental old rubbish. I have been sorely disappointed by the series since Matt came on board (although not necessarily due to him). Gone from a must-watch to meh.

Re: New Comic Magazine hits the stands

Nothing wrong with change as long as it's good change (after all, Barry Allen and Hal Jordan aren't the originals, with the JSA members still around and popular today). Wally West was a far more rounded character than Barry Allen, with a more interesting personality and social life. Plus Barry died ...

Re: Happy 88th Birthday Stan Lee!

"I keep telling you, I'm the Trapster!" There's also the Wingless Wizard (to distinguish him from all those winged wizards fluttering about) and Tigra, the Were-Woman (thinking that somehow meant werewolf-woman, only 'were'wolf = 'man'wolf, so she actually was known as Tigra, the Man-Woman!) Absolut...

Re: I'm loving Marvel (and DC) UK at the moment

Can you imagine his Silver Surfer, all gleaming and metallic. Wow! That'd be incredible! In fact, I struggle to think of a character his artwork would suit more. And if it was published in Warrior, with a script by one of their awesome writers...all the better.

Re: I'm loving Marvel (and DC) UK at the moment

Not read DC Universe yet is that only £1? I meant £1 as in, along with Panini's work, you get 3 US issues in a £2.99 mag, so it's the equivalent of getting a US mag for £1. I'll get the FF starting this month. Probably be about another year until Marvel Legends though (but isn't Brubaker top qu...

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11

I absolutely agree with you (and FIFA) about Russia. A big footballing country that's able to promote the game, plus has the money to improve pitches, infrastructure etc. And remember, I wanted it to come to England - I want to go to the matches - but would it be the best decision for football? Unfo...

I'm loving Marvel (and DC) UK at the moment

I only moved back to the UK a couple of weeks ago (boy, isn't it cold!). Walked into a comic shop but was completely knocked-out (figure of speech to the pedantic) by the wall of comics that greeted me. So much to catch up on from the last couple of years or so. A pretty much impossible task. In fac...

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11

They sent the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Prince William of Wales and one of the best footballers in America and yet they didn't choose...(looks at notes)...England. It must be a fix  Mind you, probably best it's held over in Johnny-Foreigner-Land. They're all such sor...

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11

I wanted England to win it, so I could go see a few matches but, to be honest, I felt Russia was the right candidate. A big footballing nation, with money that has never hosted the tournament. Perhaps they bribed, perhaps they didn't but England has no automatic right to believe they should be in po...

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11

Liverpool will do alright. The manager has a track record. Just needed settling in time. He's still playing with someone else's team. I've always had a soft spot for West Ham. They were a real class above most teams in terms of playing style in the 60-80s (although that rarely led to decent results ...
