Christmas annuals in the attic (BBC News article)

Interesting article here about UK annuals, the value of old ones, sales of this year's, and if they have a future:

Re: A new forum has been created - Small Press and Indie Com

Wouldn't that Rebellion stuff be covered in the Retired IPC/Odhams/Fleetway titles section? And anything 2000AD or DC Thomson related goes in their respective sections.

Re: The longest running comics that have never been renumber

They missed Mad too! Mad, which, despite being published by DC Comics, is famously a MAGAZINE, not a comic book, because they wanted to dodge the Comics Code Authority. I would've extended the article title in the thread title by adding "currently published English" before the word comics, but I wa...

Re: Looking for the title of two comics I read in the 1990s

And incidentally - one of the related auctions for that Zoo issue was a 1997 Cosmic magazine, which I remember having at the time and it is very very close to how I remember the first of my queries, but as I look through the images available, I don't think it's exactly the one I'm trying to remembe...

The longest running comics that have never been renumbered

Newsarama has a piece about the 10 longest running currently published English language comics that have never been renumbered (which means nothing from Marvel is in there, and the only DC comic is Looney Tunes). I'm pleased to say the top two are British - 2000AD and The Beano! Nice to see Beano ge...

That last one's more of a shared universe then, like Marvel and DC.

Re: This week's issue - Take 4

That's been mentioned a few times before, but only recently. Minnie's is Makepeace, Danny's is Morgan. There's a few other examples, some of which have only been mentioned in the comic... for example, Spotty is James Cameron . His surname hasn't been mentioned in the comic, though his first name was...

Re: Budget week, do you remember?

Ah, you had a Spectrum? I had a Commodore 64. Considering the loading times of those old systems, I'd say it back to the comics AND the ZX81 - you could probably read a few pages while waiting for a game to load!

Re: Beano to get CGI revamp for YouTube generation

The TV character, who has also been appearing in the comic for the last few weeks, is new character Rubi's father. Her own strip is called Rubi's Screwtop Science, but her father was only introduced a few weeks ago despite the strip running for months already. He's been in Rubi's strip and in Dennis...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

Just went to buy Doctor Who Magazine and Simpsons Comics (both released three days ago), but WHSmith (Kingswood Hull branch) was sold out of (or had failed to put out on the shelves) both. Tried the nearby Asda, which was also either sold out or has stopped stocking them. Going to have to check the ...

Re: Beano to get CGI revamp for YouTube generation

Both of you, how old are your kids? They're obviously aiming at a pretty young target audience. My youngest, who I mentioned above, is 5 and eldest is 7. They've both recently started watching CBBC more than Cbeebies, but probably my youngest is doing that because he's led by my eldest. I would sus...

Re: The Phoenix in America

Gotta say, this is an embarrassment for DC Thomson, since Beano isn't available in the same way (Scholastic and Comixology), and really should be. They're behind the times.

I bet they'll get some accidental traffic from people looking for the Jean Grey stuff - they timed this pretty well!
