Re: Spam postings

Are we at war? First Russia, now France. I hadn't realised that I had upset people to that extent.

Re: Another landmark for Lew

p.s.Know that this post was written with humour in mind That's absolutely as it should be. I mean, how can you have a website about comics without any humour present? It's a contradiction in terms. I do agree with the Cap that it's quite right and proper that we should focus more on comics and less...

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

Just to clarify 'The Girls Weekly' ran from 1912 to 1922 (not 1919 as I originally stated) a total of 492 issues before, like the Blue Bird, it was merged with My Weekly. As my records of early DC Thomson publications have temporarily gone walkabout, could you please check for me, Kashgar, whether ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Chuggington . I just fell in love with that cutesy tambourine/clock freebie. However, I've decided to share the £1.99s worth with my granddaughter, Lolo. I keep the comic, she gets the tambourine/clock. She's only two and a half but she's got rhythm, she sings, she dances, what do I really want wi...

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

Eh? My comment appeared over 10 hours before yours. Perhaps you're suffering from old codgerness yourself. Just to clarify, Lew. My three (3) was not a reference to your good self. Equally, I wasn't casting any aspersions on Kashgar's knowledge, breadth of vision, ability to present an argum...

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

Now while those two old codgers waffle on about their inability to fully grasp the wonders of the modern age back to the topic in hand! On recounting I've realised that I've listed 26 titles from the 1960's rather than the original 25 I promised I'm sure you meant to say three (3), Kashgar. I may b...

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

There is no point in my doubling up on your scan, Phil, which achieved effectively the same thing as the second and third scans that I wanted to upload earlier. I'm still being prevented from posting the first scan. Given that the system accepted your scan, could somebody explain to me please what e...

Re: Easter comic covers

I must admit that I was unsettled on reading the serial The Making Of A British Soldier in The Wizard in 1950. Tom Rainham goes off to do his obligatory two years of military training (National Service) in the Twenty-Fifth Lancers. An early friend is Peter Ingram and they find themselves in the same...

Some mothers must have rued the day they ever served up that custard. A significant number of those dancing children will have returned home, somehow, with their legs detached from their bodies.

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

I really like that logo; it's a pity it wasn't subsequently revived as a girls' picture-strip comic instead of all those Girl's-name-ending-in-'Y' titles that everyone went mad on in the wake of Bunty. All was not completely lost, Phil. In issue 31 of Diana (September 21st 1963), the editor introdu...

Re: A 1960's comic countdown.

May I just add to Col's information that according to The New Encyclopaedia Britannica (15th edition), a nationalist ideologist called Guido von List had suggested that the swastika should become a symbol for all anti-Semitic organisations as early as 1910.
