Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

I agree completely with what our friend colcool7 has said in a separate thread . I have had a smile on my face since seeing the latest Star Wars at 9am Sunday morning! We came away thinking it is a very clever re-boot of sorts as it follows that other film where a map is hidden in a droid; someone h...

Re: US Government comics including the Broons!

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51pmiNpiMiL._SX356_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg ...and I notice that Richard has also authored a book on the subject, if anyone's interested. It called "Government Issue: Comics for the people 1940s - 2000s" and it can be had quite cheaply on Amazon.co.uk. You can see ...

Re: Comic artists working in other fields..like advertising

Wow! I've never seen that before!!! Phil, I'm ashamed of you! It's taken me a while to catch up, but have you not looked at my old blog before? Maybe I shouldn't be so modest? Bellamy did 3 that I know of, although when I approached the circus on Midsummer Common, Cambridge and was greeted with dee...

US Government comics including the Broons!

I thought some colleagues here might enjoy these comics provided by the University of Nebraska Lincoln although they are not within the remit of this group, we do have one that I've spotted: The Broons and OOr Willie [sic] Fire Safety Special from the Scottish Fire Services! I've let Richard Graham ...

Re: Fortunino Matania

Interestingly Fleetway/IPC featured a whole load of Matania's illustrations during the 1970s (albeit in murky black and white) in an obscure annual called The Eagle Book of Amazing Stories. Well, that's definitley a new one on me...shan't be chasing it though based on your recommendation :D Thanks ...

Re: Fortunino Matania

Brilliant work by Matania. It's lovely to see him getting recognition after being out in the cold for quite a while. He was Frank Bellamy's favourite and they met in Matania's studio once and exchanged Christmas cards.
Thanks for sharing Matrix

Re: Power Comics

I still seem to remember something about an award that may or may not have been presented by the Guardian but the photo I was thinking of apparently came from The Observer (which many people think of as the 'Sunday Guardian' anyway). Here's Alf - a few years older and looking far more dapper in his...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Did the Americans do strips like that with the text beneath the picture? Now that you've mentioned Jack Kamen it looks even more American to me - shades of Milton Cannif. Here's the only other two pages I have. Sadly the eight page strip section wasn't in the 1956 or 1957 issues so was probably sho...

Al, there are a lot of people who thank you for all your hard work over the years. I look forward to seeing what you do next old boy! As for 'Soul-net' no thanks, I for one don't want the burden of updating my blogs and website after death :-)

Re: Is eBay getting worse

How are you searching? There are never that few items for sale in that category. I currently have almost 200 items for sale in UK Comics & Annuals myself, and have done for weeks! A quick check of that category across ebay UK currently reveals 88, 454 results! Tony, you're absolutely right! I was a...

Re: Is eBay getting worse

Interesting discussion. I have been a buyer since about 1999 (current profile says 2001) and sold a few bits and bobs over the years. I have only had a few parcels "go missing" and claimed the value (both as a buyer and seller), got the Post Office money and not felt it's a growing problem. It's cer...
