Re: The Dandy and The Beano the differences..

If only The Dandy would replicate one of the other common traits of comics across the pond, and relaunch itself with a new #1...

Re: What Shall We Do?

I'd love to see a Beano Retro, like Digi suggested. Somewhere between CftC and the summer specials. It'd probably have to have a high price tag for WH Smith to be interested - maybe a 68-page monthly for £3.99, with Beano branding but reprinting strips from across the DC Thomson archives? Or maybe t...

Re: Guardian article: The Dandy Faces Closure

Put two and two together... ...and get five. I really don't understand your dislike of The Guardian, Digi. It's one of the most respected, least-sensationalist newspapers. They BROKE the hacking scandal, for flip's sake! And I would imagine Guardian journalists have more pressing, urgent things to ...

No they didn't. And no they're not.

Re: The Beano merges..UPDATE its not a merge!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who rarely buys The Beano (but did buy it this week), a free digital subscription would be lovely. And once my free sub runs out, maybe I'll decide I can "never be without a Beano", and either renew the digital sub or pick it up from my local newsagents every Wednesday. And maybe I won't ...

Re: New Comic - Crumbs!

Just to show there's interest - I very much enjoyed the Crumbs strips, hope that more appear very soon, and would dearly love a print version (wishful thinking on the latter, but maybe if the site is regularly updated a "best of" hard copy wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility?)

Re: Alf Tupper returns

Apologies for the clumsy phrasing of my previous post, Phoenix. What I meant to say: I would very much like to buy the IDW Groo Artists' Edition book, but at $100, it's beyond my means at the moment. If, however, I had a child that I could sell to raise the $100 needed, I would do so and buy the boo...

Re: Alf Tupper returns

The very existence of this book feels like a minor miracle! It seems unfair that the US receive the lovingly-made, comprehensive, deluxe collections such as Fantagraphics reprinting every single Peanuts or Popeye newspaper strip in order, or IDW's huge, lavish "artist's edition" collections (I would...

Re: Panic at the Pumps!

I don't find bogies funny... but that's because I'm NOT EIGHT YEARS OLD. I'm sure I did when I was. Plus one of my favourite ever things from comics was The Plops from Oink!, and they were much more "gross" than anything The Beano has ever printed.

Re: comics on c-d rom

Someone I follow on Twitter recently stated that their opinion on pirated material was that they'd pirate it if it's not commercially available, but once it was they'd buy it right away. I think this is a fair compromise. (Though they were talking about archive TV series, not comics.) It's a tough o...

Re: Help for the new boy please?

Not a fan of smilies, even though I do use them. I think they can be helpful on forums as posts are often quite "stream of consciousness", whereas if you were writing a more considered piece then it'd be easier to imply intention. Erm, or something. :) (Incidentally, I don't think there was anything...

Re: Is it just me...

I must admit I agree. I don't want to be pessimistic, as it's a great publication, and John Freeman's clearly poured gallons of blood, sweat and tears into it. It seems that printing in Bosnia means that timely delivery can't be guaranteed - but, presuambly, it'd be too costly to print the mag in th...

Re: Dandy Annual 2013

We don't actually know the Badd Lads' names at all. Boss, Fingers, and Knuck (short for Knucklehead) are clearly just nicknames. You never know. People have stupid names in comics all the time. I like to think their full, real, given, actual names are Boss Badd, Fingers Badd and Knuck Badd. (Why no...

Re: Would you read it?

I'd buy it. One of my many "ideas of things I'd like to do that, in reality, I'll almost certainly never get round to" is a similar book about Oink! It'd be a smaller undertaking as it only ran for a couple of years, and many of its contributors are still active so should be easy to hunt down for in...
