Re: Leo Baxendale

I was very pleased to discover that he'd lived in Broughty Ferry when we lived there, although he may have gone south by the time I saw his name in Wham.

Re: Ever sold any comics and deeply regretted it ever since?

In the late 70s I found a big run of early Boy's World really cheap. I bought them because 60s British comics were hard to find in Australia, but later got rid of them thinking they were a bit too "boy". Much later another couple of issues turned up and I realised how great "Wrath Of The Gods" was, ...

Re: Sci-Fi strips in girls comics

An old thread, but I hadn't been able to see most of the scans until recently, so thanks for the pages from The Pink Peril. The colouring is out of this world! I wonder if John Burns had this strip in mind when he drew Countdown? Here's Schoolgirls Picture Library No 314, "Planet Of Fear", from June...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Volumes 1, 3 and 4 of Pictures From Punch, a retrospective published in 1904. Although it has material going back to 1842, it doesn't really start getting funny until the Nineties and the debut of Phil May, Tom Browne, and Charles Harrison. Jokes about bicycles, bloomers, radium and art nouveau I ca...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I've bought a couple of 1965 TV Comics with episodes of the Dr Who Planet Go-Ray story. A little expensive, but I've been after these for ages. Can animals really have wheels instead of legs? Whatever, Bill Mevin goes for it.

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics

There has been some talk recently of US collectors getting interested in UK reprints of Marvel/DC material - once they've collected all the American issues, that's the next place to go. Some characters like Captain Britain were only published in Marvel UK issues. If this trend really does happen, t...

Thanks, Phil. It's amazing that there's always a convenient railway track laid out no matter where Prof Yum and his friends want to go!

Re: OINK! 30th anniversary

Oink was an eye-opener for me at a time when I'd given up on British comics. I thought it was appealingly odd and attractively disgusting, and it stood out from the competition the way the early Wham and Smash did.

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics

I liked "Girl Who Was Death" for two reasons: it seemed like a parody of the siller kind of Avengers story - dig the villain who thinks he's Napoleon! - and there's an extended sequence filmed at the Southend Kursaal. I love pictures of old-time fun fairs.

Jehan, I tried to send you a PM, but it hasn't worked. Could you send me a message with the address to post the Peter Pan Mickey to?
