Re: Classics of the Beano 70 years next Month..end of July

Is there no such thing as digitally remastering for the printed page? The answer will probably revolve around two words such as "viable" and "financially".

Leo Baxendale in Saturday's Daily Telegraph

The Saturday just gone i'm afraid (2nd August). There was a half page column by him complete with a colour pic of the Bash Street Kids (not his art though). I have scanned the half page but because it is a broadsheet paper I have had to do it in two halves. There is a link to the telegraph website a...

Re: Bill Ritchie framed print.

Bill Ritchie has a cartoon most weeks just unfortunate your first purchase didn't include one but still nice to see the likes of SAX and Earl still submitting stuff. One of the Best examples of Ritchie art must be The Twitz of the Ritz where he had the two centre pages in full colour in Buzz, didn't...

Commando 4000 mentioned in Weekly News

I found this in the Weekly News while searching for Bill Ritchie cartoons - it's funny how the Weekly News refers to DC Thomson as if it'a another company even though the Weekly News is published by Thomsons.

Re: Bill Ritchie framed print.

I've been through my Weekly News's and have scanned some Bill Ritchie cartoons. What I don't understand is that some of the scans were of a half page of the paper and around 400kb. I then went into edit, cut the Ritchie cartoon and sent it to another file but the cartoon on its own is still 400kb, w...

Re: Snap Shots Christmas Double number 1901

Isn't it a funny old world, five minutes ago i'd never heard of Thomas Nast, but just googled him and found he illustrated for Harper's Weekly, an American magazine. He did lots of Civil War drawings and I have a great interest in the American West and the Civil War. It says he was the creator of th...

Re: Snap Shots Christmas Double number 1901

I googled Santa's cozzie (sic) and got this: These early Christmas cards of the 19th Century were black and white until colour printing was invented in the 1860s. Each year Harpers magazine was famous for their pictures of Santa each year. Thomas Nast, their illustrator, was asked to think of a colo...

Re: Beano 70th may be on News at Ten tonight

Clive Bull did have comics as one of his phone-in subjects last night and there were a few interesting callers. Only saw a Beano tribute in the Sun today, nothing in the Express, Mail or Mirror.

Re: The Mammoth Book of Best Crime Comics

There was a posting in these forums earlier in the year suggesting a Marvel Essentials style collection of British stuff from Fleetway or Thomson, there were lots of suggestions there but can't remember which post it was. Will have a butchers.

Re: Bill Ritchie framed print.

The Weekly News is a bit like Commando, hard to track down. I have had it every week since the early 70s and have lived in London all my life, my local Tesco even sold it for a while. Just to make things clear The Weekly News has been around for over 150 years and is published by DC Thomson. It was ...

Re: Nick Park on radio five live

I have a lot of time for Richard Bacon, someone sent him a text on Monday which he read out saying he was rubbish and belonged on CBBC, he said "I've tried that, it didn't work out". I am impressed by his knowledge of any subject he has to tackle on air. The Radio Five breakfast show is great listen...

Re: Beano 70th may be on News at Ten tonight

To Peter Gray, the Comic Museum is near Bloomsbury and if you come up this Sunday there is also a Comic Mart at the Royal National Hotel, Bloomsbury opening at 12 noon. Mostly US comics but Phil Clarke will probably be there and you can look through all his original Fleetway artwork.
