Re: This weeks Dandy

Shame they mixed his story up. Dinosaurs were an opponent of Strang the Terrible, not Morgyn. Probably got mixed up because both strongmen were in early Beanos. I think it's time we all accepted that the amount of deep and sincere analysis which can sensibly be performed on Alexander Matthews' scri...

Re: Promoting new publications

Have you ever noticed what a high proportion of content in British newspapers is simple rehashings of press releases, some of which were explicitly designed to provide free advertising for a given company by dressing up marketing claims as 'news'? Annoying, isn't it? I'm not saying I don't think the...

Re: Kick In The Bold?

I'll leave this one to you, Swirly. Perfect timing - I was just taking account of this kind of ambiguity when drawing up my proposed rules . Basically, I decided that Zgirl33 isn't technically an advertiser because nobody's paying her to do this, even though the aim of the thread is to get people t...

Re: Promoting new publications

I didn't mean to come across as impolite, it was more to generate an interest and thinking by posting 'new Thunderbirds Haynes manual out now' it would have been impolite. No? I chose specifically to post on here as it is a relevant product for comic fans, but I appreciate the different views - it ...

Re: Who's a fan of the amazing Thunderbirds?

Threads like this one seem to be on the increase. Can we please have a new rule which states that any users in the pay of corporations to promote their products on this forum must first pay Al for the privilege? Otherwise it just seems like freeloading, and little better than the days when we were s...

Yes, it was.

I was more or less making the script up as I went along, and I didn't have time to make any revisions, hence a number of lines and details I'd change if I were to redo the whole thing from scratch.

Re: Fan art

I went to the Pop Up Festival in King's Cross today and spent the day surrounded by successful and talented artists who were never short of inspiration, which was a bit intimidating to someone with zero drawing ability and who has original ideas approximately once every six months. But I tried very ...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

In fact... what's happened to them? The CBBC redesign already represented a break from the earlier styles of the character; but the most recent Beanos have evolved the look even further away, with enormous pupils in everyone's eyes and extremely flat, big-headed proportions for all of the character...

Re: This week's issue Take 2

The Beano's reprints really are drawn from a very limited range of dates right now, aren't they? We've already seen the Number 13 strip from the same birthday issue. What with this and the masthead redesign, it all feels like a very deliberate attempt to market the comic specifically at the generati...

Re: Re-used script

It happens sometimes. I started that thread after a triple transplant - from annual to comic, from Dandy to Beano, and from Winker Watson to Bash Street Kids. There are a few other examples mentioned there as well. Sexton Blake in Valiant was also basically re-drawn and slightly changed scripts fro...

Re: English?

I found that site a while ago it is quite odd and often the nonsense reviews come across as being quite surreal. With this one being among my favourites. That's a review for which the phrase WTF!? would have to be invented, if it didn't already... This recent one is depressingly hilarious.

Re: Issue 1

Today, on my regular jaunt to Gosh (despite having a huge Waitrose relatively near to my house), I walked right past Alan Moore signing books on the table next to the shelf where the Phoenixes are kept. The queue stretched some distance out of the door. Five minutes later, and for the second time in...

Re: Current availability

As it has been some twenty issues since I last bothered, I paid a visit to the Wimbledon Waitrose today, just on the offchance that they might have started getting the Phoenix in the meantime. (After all, several people have reported that their local Waitroses started out without it, but the situati...
