Harry Potter (bear with me)

But we'll never know if it would work because nobody is willing to take the risk. If kids are willing to read a 600 page novel then who's to say a densley packed comic strip wouldn't re-kindle some forgotten part of the child's brain. If it doesn't get used then it withers and dies.

Harry Potter (bear with me)

OK this post is not about Harry Potter. So here goes... I think it's safe to say that Bloomsbury took a risk publishing Harry Potter. They told her the book was too long for children. She'd already been turned down by countless publishers (who must be kicking themselves now) so it was a gamble i'm s...

Tuck Shop

Does anyone remember the Rowntree's Fruit Gums (or it may have been Pastilles) advert posters that ran in the Fleetway Funnies in about 1980? They were proper fold out glossy posters (not huge though) that had some sort of mystery in the artwork that the reader had to decipher and come to some concl...

WHAT COMICS TO TAKE ON HOLIDAY

I too remember my first real experience of comics. I was 7 years old and I broke my leg at school. My Mum and Dad took me to the hospital and while I was waiting there was a Buster and Monster Fun comic on the pile. I really enjoyed it (all I had read up untill then was Jack and Jill and Disneyland ...

Tolworthy, I also have an almost complete collection of MF. The BTBT books are not all drawn by Mr B (They are all funny though). Al kindly supplied me with an almost complete list as to which book goes with which comic cos mine had all been removed and stapled when i got them. I can list them if yo...

J E Oliver R.I.P

A few years ago Jack designed this logo for me to use in my (failed) DJ career, I thought it would be a good time to use it because my computer skills ain't all that and it's taken me this long to get around to working out how to do it! My memories of the great man's work are from the 80's Buster wo...

J E Oliver R.I.P

Hi there,
Just been informed that the great Jack Oliver passed away yesterday (26th).
I'm sure we're not alone in saying that we will miss the regular Fresco strips and the great man himself.

Darren and Emma (big Fresco fans)

quote] there was also that weekday afternoon family sitcom from the 80's in which the king of the hill was a freelance cartoonist who wore a puppet on his drawing hand.[/quote] Gnnnghhhh... Now what was that called, seem to remember he had a form of depression brought on by lack of work/cabin fever,...

WHAT ABOUT FRANK MCDAIRMID?

I would say he's most remembered for Cheeky.
I loved his weekly comic, all those corny jokes, so many things going on in the background all the time and great characters. Who can forget Lolly Pop? Phwooaar!!!

Re: Comic prices and inflation. How do they compare?

And what about those TV and girly chat mags that seem to cost next to nothing. How do they do it? It is also worth remembering that these publications mentioned have copius advertisments within their pages, and the low prices help them to sell like very hot cakes. I wonder how advertising has chang...

Secondhand Comics - Where Are They?

I think e-bay has had an effect on car boot sales in general- why let someone beat you down on a price when you can let the whole country bid up on it? The sheer number of any particular comic/annual for sale during the course of a week or so has destroyed the car boot mentality of the 90's. I can r...

May I point you to this website, maybe destined for great things, check out the full story "The Reaper" on the site which was pencilled, inked and all the rest by my good friend Kevin P Frost who, not only was my Best Man (great speech Kev) but is also rather embarrased that he plays scrabble every ...
