Re: DC Thomson re-prints
[quote:99be317848="Captain Storm"]You mention"get swallowed by the book binding".A simple solution would be to print the strip a half inch from the left hand edge...ta-dah![/quote:99be317848] The word Spread means the pictures go across the spine so it wouldn't be possible to do as you sugges...

Re: Encyclopedia Of Comic Characters
Got mine for 50p too from a Sue Ryder shop about 5 years ago. It was under a pile of other books but 40 years of collecting comics made it a cinch for me to spot the letter C of the title sticking out. Did see it later at a comic mart for the aforementioned 30 quid. Also got a cashmere crombie overc...

Beano Max featured in tonight's newspaper.
This evening's London Lite (a freesheet given out at railway stations here in the capital) features the latest Beano Max, see scan below for the reason why:

Re: Which was the first Summer Special?
The old large format comics like Comic Cuts and Illustrated Chips regularly had Whitsun, Easter or Summer Holiday numbers but they were just regular issues with the same numbering. There was a comic that only appeared four times a year - once for each season, obviously it featured the words Summer W...

VALENTINE: Picture Library collection.
I was in the discount bookshop opposite the Old Vic, Waterloo yesterday and saw they had a book of old Valentine Picture Library strips. It was Commando sized with a full colour cover and a frontpiece and then had five or six complete Valentine Libraries reprinted inside. This is the first time i've...

Re: Previously unpublished Hector The Collector strip
I open and sort the post in work and find it hard to throw away a white envelope without doing a nice doodle on it first. Have thought about doing a newspaper type strip but it is so hard to think of something that hasn't already been done. Also have ideas for single panel cartoons but never get aro...

Previously unpublished Hector The Collector strip
Back in my teens in the 70s i used to submit artwork to comics but was told it wasn't good enough and to stick to scriptwriting, this is a page I did for Cracker Comic. I had already had one Hector script used so tried again. Unfortunately it was turned down because of the presence of the vicar. Now...

Re: 1878 COPY OF THE HORNET!
Can confirm Punch began in 1840s as i have a facsimile of first issue somewhere. Companion paper Judy came out a few years later but didn't last as long obviously. Have first issue facsimile of that too. (Or an original issue - or both).

Re: are you shocked by how much you can remember?
It's the same with music, I bought every punk record going back in the late 70s. I am now buying them again on cd and even though I haven't listened to them for a good 25 years I find i can sing along with them like it was yesterday. But on the other hand i have so many unread Commando books that I ...

1878 COPY OF THE HORNET!
I picked up this curio at the London ephemera fair on Sunday. It's mostly politics and is like an early Private Eye or Spectator. Has some cartoons and two plates of caricatures in the centre pages. Dated July 24 1878:

COMMISSIONER GORDON SNOGGING A BIRD?
Believe it or not but Neil Hamilton who played Commissioner Gordon in the Batman tv series in the 60s was once a movie heart throb, here he is on the cover of Picture Show from 12 November 1932. OK you can't really glim his fizzog but his name is underneath. Holy tonsil tickling! http://i27.tinypic....

A NEW IDEA FOR COMMANDO
Yes Tough was just an example as I can't really think of any war stories by name from Victor, Hotspur etc. How about Braddock?

A NEW IDEA FOR COMMANDO
We are all aware that Commando has reduced its new stories to four per month along with four reprints but why can't DC Thomson use its imagination and maybe adapt some of the great boys paper strips for reprinting in Commando. When I saw the latest issue, The Buccaneers, it made me remember Cameron ...
