What about the other Comics?!

When I was a kid I thought the Beano was quite good and the Dandy was only just about OK. For real laughs it had to be Krazy comic and its off shoot Cheeky. I was gutted when they were cancelled.

When it came to action comics Warlord et al were OK but 2000AD was a leagues a head of all of them.

DC Sales Figures

I never know how to take these figures these days. So many of the titles mentioned above seem to do best as trades that can go into multiple printings. I would guess that Albion for instance will be turned into a trade within a month of its completion and be available in many bookshops for years to ...

Titan books

I have never been a big fan of Titan books. I always feel that they try and screw every last penny out of me for the work that they retail. Pro rata they are much more expensive to buy than Mavel's output when it comes to hadcovers and TPB's.

Anyone hungry?

Even now after all these years I still like to serve my Sausage and mash comic book style.

Did anyone here ever have a midnight feast like Winker Watson always seemed enjoy?

a question...

Plenty of comics exist for every taste the hard part is finding them. I am a superhero fan and don't think you can reject titles like She-Hulk Manhunter Wonder Woman (written by the bloke that scripted sex in the City) Catwoman If they are a real turn off though stuff that seems to appeal to Woman i...

Binding Comics

Who punches holes in them to bind them? that would be madness. I know some well heeled fans (and one or two artists such as John Byrne) have a lot stuff superbly bound. Take a gander at these books to see what I mean:-

Anyone hungry?

I was hoping these would be recipes to show you how to make perfectly round Christmas puddings with icing and holly leaf (as they always used to appear in the annuals). Or how to make a superbly presented fish and chips ie large battered fish on paper with chips poking out from underneath. I always ...

black comic characters

Sadly you have to hop across the pond to hit a really rich vein of minority characters. Having said that as they produce so much stuff compared to us Brits the characters fairly obviousely easier to come up with. Check out this link for a pretty comprehensive listing of black characters:- http://www...

Beano art exhibition in Kidderminster - now

I was working over the weekend so did not get chance to go and bag a free drink on the first day. I am hoping to pop into Kiddy Wednesday or Thursday this week though to have a look at this Beano bonanza. I shall have to report back here after I have been!

ALBION NUMBER 4 IS OUT

I have been picking up this series but have mixed feelings about it. I love the covers for it I would go as far as to say the image of Robot Archies head on the table is what sold the series to me more than Alan Moores name however I am not thrilled with the art inside. It seems a strange choice to ...

UK comic book sales figures?

Its interesting that the sales of books like V for Vendetta shot through the roof when the film was released and yet sales of Spider-Man the FF and the X-Men (both as comics and trades) only gently increased for a while and yet thousands more went to see the superhero movies compared to V. You would...

UK comic book sales figures?

When I hear of success stories like Tokyopop, Viz Comics and their 200 page digest size Manga being so popular with kids in the USA and UK it leads me to believe that it's not comics that are failing as a medium but the standard format that has fallen out of favour . I think that is a very valid po...

UK comic book sales figures?

Thanks for all that terrific stuff. Reading it seems to answer the question that is being posed in the USA about why comics are failing as a medium. Sadly it looks like it really is just because other things are taking up kids time rather than because the content is aimed at older readers.

UK comic book sales figures?

Thanks for the info on Toxic. I had no idea it sold that many copies. In the States that would be considered a very healthy title indeed these days. I have to say I agree with the comparisons with manga books. The nearest we have to them in the UK I would guess would be Marvel's Essential line. Thes...

UK comic book sales figures?

Hi, I was wondering if any of you guys can tell me how I can get hold of the sales figures for British comics? My reason for wanting them is because I spend a lot of time on the American comic book artist John Byrne's web site and we frequently debate why comics that sold at one time 200,000 issues ...
