It was not the final cover. The in-comic ads carry a small print disclaimer that the Beano annual cover may be different (read: WILL be different) but I haven't had a chance to dig around and see if it's available in Belfast yet.

I found it interesting that they were advertising - I thought they had already replaced Morris Heggie as archivist, and of course this is combining his former role with that of Calum Laird.

DC Thomson already knows its market - that's why the Dandy special bookazines are classic material (albeit I think prepared by the Beano team) and we get the annual Beano/Dandy archive books. The ad for the Beano annual says "Please note that the front cover image of the Beano annual may change." That said, next week is clearly going to be the pre-launch, as another issue is required to defeat Walter and his dad before the actual revamp happens. My copy arrived today - it's the vagaries ...

It's a fair picking of nits. The logo constitutes part or all of the masthead - so, for example, to take Arena of Awesome, its logo was the central part of the masthead, and the panels showing the fighters are not logos but still part of the masthead.
