Re: Ebay sales: Good price for the seller, buyer or both??
I picked a 2000 AD #2 up without the stickers back in about 1992, along with numbers #1, #4 and #5, for ten pence each after finding them in a cardboard box on the pavement outside a second hand bookshop in Crystal Palace.

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':
I went to see Captain America: Civil War today and I was genuinely impressed. I enjoyed it far more than Avengers: Age of Ultron. Won't post any spoilers but I thought there was a lot more character development in the Captain America movie than in the last Avengers one. 4.5/5 for me. I saw it in Ip...

Re: Comics on TV
I never understood why they kept it going after Reg Varney left.stevezodiac wrote:They have been showing episodes of On The Buses on ITV4 which no longer have Reg Varney (Stan) or Michael Robbins (Arthur). Still funny but lacking.

I used to go there every year at one time, sad to hear it's apparently gone downhill.philcom55 wrote:The first few years of Memorabilia at Birmingham's NEC were the best source of old British comics I ever found. Unfortunately they hardly bother with comics at all now!

Re: What kind of fan are you?
My wife left me because my comics collecting took precedence over her. You can have mine, for the right swap; she's a bit untidy, but she makes a nice steak & kidney pie. I don't suppose you've got any 1960s Avengers Annuals (John Steed, rather than Iron Man)? I always regret having no-one to call ...

Re: What kind of fan are you?
I used to attend conventions and the like, but that was when I lived in the London area and had a fairly sizeable disposable income. Nowadays, I don't, and I live in the wilds of Suffolk where, oddly enough, conventions tend not to be held. Since I couldn't really afford to attend most events even i...

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics
People are scum. Philistines. They'll just see things through completely different eyes. They'll see it as just old kids' tat, clogging up rooms, like in a Channel 4 documentary hoarder's house. They'll feel no connection whatsoever to old Tom and Jerry board games, Quick Draw McGraw coffee flasks,...

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics
Desirable and collectible are pretty much the same thing, if people want them, they'll pay for them. And yes, roughly thirty to thirty-five years seems to be the magic number for nostalgia. At the moment, it seems to be all about the eighties from a dealer's POV. Well, I've seen people rifling thro...

I'd certainly agree the game was from from up. Warlord, Battle, 2000AD, Krazy, The Crunch etc. etc. etc. (although maybe he means boys comics only really had another 10 years, rather than good comics were about finished mid-70s). Late-80s mature comics (Crisis, 2000AD, Revolver, Viz etc.) were grea...

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics
my brother has told me all my comics are going in a skip when i'm gone :( I read an interesting thread on the Marvel Masterworks forum a while back, where somebody posted photos of his quite spectacular collection of pop culture memorabilia: walls and walls of perfectly preserved vintage games, com...

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics
Marvel UK are actually very collectable, now. I've been selling quite a few lately, and getting a decent price for them. I've also been filling quite a few gaps in my own collection. There seem to be more around than there used to be. I think they are seeming increasingly desirable . I'm not sure a...

Re: Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD - Wed 6th 11.25pm on F
In view of my age; born in 1967, my love affair with comics burgeoned when they were beginning to wilt - circa 1975. For around six years thereafter, I was completely hooked with all things comics while little realizing that the game was up by this time. Then sadly, I eschewed the few British title...

Re: Thoughts on collecting comics
It's funny, Phoenix, I used to go to the Manchester Piccadilly Plaza comic marts, whenever I could, as a boy, probably from around mid-1980, and only recall there being tables of US Marvel and DC comics. I wouldn't have been interested in those old D.C. Thomson story papers, so I wonder if I've blo...
