ANARCHY in COMICS U.K.: 'PUSS 'n' BOOTS'

Just read the 'PUSS 'n' BOOTS' strip you directed me to, RAVEN........STILL reminds me very much of ANIMATION artwork from M-G-M'S cartoon unit............nothing wrong with that, of course, BILL and JOE, [HANNAH/BARBERA'S pre-TV, cinematic work, TEX AVERY]------as good a model as any, I reckon........

ANARCHY in COMICS U.K.: 'PUSS 'n' BOOTS'

LEW.....as far as I am aware, the 'CHAMP' 'I SPY' strips from around '84 [drawn by BRIAN WALKER] were drawn in a slightly sketchier, scaled-down form, and tho' better than nothing, I am darned if I can remember much about them........ RAVEN.......I think that the double-page 'PUSS and Boots' was a f...

ANARCHY in COMICS U.K.: 'PUSS 'n' BOOTS'

The comics world of 1969 spawned many wonders, and while 'BEANO' in all probability delivered the most consistent 'goods' [they still had DAVEY LAW on the back page, and D.D.W. for more than half of the year]....it is the decidedly second-string 'SPARKY' comic that captured my attention in that far-...

"FWADDAPP!"

The Americans sure honour their cartoonists more vigorously, and indeed take the whole concept of comics/cartooning far more seriously than we BRITS do......there are entire museums dedicated to some of their prominent cartoonists [SCHULTZ definately has one]....this is totally unthinkable here........

20 almost-forgotten I.P.C. strips......

'SPARKY' is the one comic I am actively trying to obtain a full set of: I am fairly sure that 'CAPTAIN CUTLER' took over the colour centrespread from 'I SPY' around SEPT. 1972........I viewed a lot of these items, just recently.....this strip was called ''oh, CRUMBS!' in earlier-produced artwork for...

20 almost-forgotten I.P.C. strips......

I am genuinely surprized that PETER DAVIDSON drew 'TIN TEACHER', KASHGAR........your credentials are so impeccable, I will take your word for it..........I remember all the 'BLEEP!'-ing in the ROBOT dialogue, and I always felt this strip had a slightly unhealthy edge [a bit like medievel strip 'WHAC...

20 almost-forgotten I.P.C. strips......

'ROTTEN EGGHEAD' sounds intruiging, how I fail to remember this, I don't know........it sure sounds well-worth seeking out..........as I have absolutely NO copies or reprints of any I.P.C. comics of this era, these strips have now taken on a greater value..... One consequence of putting in comments ...

20 almost-forgotten I.P.C. strips......

I certainly remember the 'PLUM DUFF'-type strip that you mention, RAVEN........very surreal----I am almost certain that this was from 'TOPPER'....refreshingly, this character often adressed the reader directly...........I apologize if some of my details are not completely accurate.........practicall...

RON SMITH is an astonishingly accomplished artist....my earliest memories of his work is on late-6os girl's comics, involving NAZIS....[it's true]........evidently, he served during WWII, so it is feasible that he has reached OCTEGEAN age.........long may you prosper, RON........signed, A FAN.

Lets hear it for Mandy!

The 'MANDY' strip that sticks in my memory is the supernatural strip: 'VALDA': this was all magical pendants [a D.C.T. girl's comic favourite STORY-DEVICE of the time].......this dark-haired beauty really stood out as something evocative at the time........as did the VERY cartoon-like ginger-eared d...

20 almost-forgotten I.P.C. strips......

The following list is completely subjective, and represent long-gone [in my time-span] characters/strips that I have only fragments of memories of..........most are from early-70s 'WHIZZER and CHIPS' or 'COR!!'-----also, a few of these strips ARE fairly memorable, but somehow seem to get overlooked ...

There was also a 'TOONERVILLE TROLLEY' animated shorts series produced in the U.S. possibly released by TERRYTOONS ['MIGHTY MOUSE, HECKLE and JECKLE', etc]-----by PAUL TERRY standards, this is meant to be quite well-animated, though I have never known of it being aired on U.K. TV.

I tried ART SCHOOL for a few months......total waste of time..........learnt to work with colour, but they hated my natural cartoon style...........if you intend forging an original style, PLEASE avoid art-school-----your time is better spent developing your own stuff....a lot of these tutors are fr...
