Re: What comics did you buy today?

At last I've found a shop in Llandudno selling comics it's called Geeks Retreat. This is a comics games shop near the main street. They haven't got loads of comics but at a £1 each I decided to buy £20 pounds worth because I'm travelling home tomorrow, looking forward to reading them in the months a...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

The cover painting was by Brian Bolland. He's 0ood, isn't he. Yes,it would have been good if the stories inside had carried on the cartoony theme. I am on holiday in Llandudno where a few years ago an antique warehouse had a few boxes of Archie comics and while on holiday I would nip in most days a...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

A word about the Gangland comic I bought in the list above. I was attracted to the cover because it looked similar to the work Lawson Wood used to produce. I knew the cover bore no relation to the three stories inside so I just merely bought It because of the cover. https://i.imgur.com/iV8B3AR.jpg

Re: Looking back ----childhood comics

You could always frame this Hotspurs and sell them on eBay or put them on your own wall. I have framed comic covers on my bedroom wall. From the Denis Gifford book of Christmas covers. (The pages are perforated for removal and framing and I came across several copies for 50p each a few years ago). ...

Re: Looking back ----childhood comics

In the 50s it was all 'Play up ! And play the game ! ,stiff upper lip and for girls, Jolly hockey sticks ! I hardly ever read story papers although there were a number around at the time with great cover illustrations. The school stories in them seemed middle class a bit like the bbc at the time. I ...

Re: Looking back ----childhood comics

That's a nice looking comic but I never read it as a wee boy. I'm very well aware of it now, though. The first photogravure comic, I think. There looks like some lovely stuff in there. Can you tell me what the swords and shields story is, please. I started right away on cowboys and superheroes in t...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Yes, when you have the money you can't find anything and when you're short of cash there's loads to buy. Cycled to a distant charity shop this morning to look through their comic boxes. Picked up a comic called EGYPT (dc vertigo) and noticed it ran for 7 issues and that all 7 issues were in the box ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Bought a near complete year of Hotspur s (1980) which helps fill in my mini collection. Recently realised that I had most of them already. :headbash: Nevermind, the majority of the newer set are in a better condition so have swapped them out. Sods law. I've done that many times. Once bought a batch...
