Re: 2012 Annuals

I wouldn't mind the expensive issues so much if DC Thomson didn't go out of their way to make my life a misery. Why must the Dandy and the Beano synchronise? Why must the expensive issues always come in pairs - never just the odd one now and again, always another one following on from the first one?...

Re: 2012 Annuals

If anyone's local newsagent isn't stocking the Dandy, I urge them to ask them to buy it. It really does work. The reason the Dandy has distribution problems is because its circulation was so low (until the revamp, with good reason), and the comic-buying public are the only people who can fix the pro...

Re: 2012 Annuals

Nobody's seen the Summer Annual in the shops because it isn't there. Distribution has been truly dismal. There wasn't a single one in Wimbledon. I eventually found a couple of copies in the huge two-storey WHSmith in the local mega-mall in Croydon, tucked out of the way in one corner of a large, bri...

Re: Advert for Wizard number 1.

I usually just stockpile them somewhere until I remember I've got them, at which point I give them to my mother, who is actively involved with the local school, so presumably she does something with them there. They always used to end up in small packages as raffle prizes... so if you've ever won an...

According to Jamie, he'd never even read the Sparky version, so you're right about it being "in name only". Any other similarities are just as coincidental.

Re: This week's issue

I'm guessing you don't have a copy of the original? Although Web Boy appeared in a speaking capacity later on, a certain amount of cover up had taken place beforehand... web00.jpg became: web07.jpg (Fran Tick, the "Editor's secretary", was the fictional personality who introduced the Beano Club page...

Re: This week's issue

Whoops - you're right, of course, I forgot about Billy. I'm not sure what it was that I liked about the tie - the only plausible explanation I can think of is that it helped set him apart from characters like Dennis and Minnie, in that he much preferred to use his brains instead of his brawn. (I mea...

Re: This weeks Dandy

It's a shame you think that the quality of the art is more important than the quality of the storytelling. Yes, the Dandy's had a few flops, but the fact that it's daring and diverse enough to even try something with a possibility of either roaring success or total failure, as opposed to bland middl...

Excuse me, but I would just like to remedy a glaring omission in the above lists:

Sir Francis Drake circumcised the world with 100 foot clippers.

Re: This week's issue

You think the kids have the most outdated clothes in Bash Street? Teacher's excuse - elaborated on several times - is that he has to wear old clothes because of everything the kids throw at him, but of course we know it's because he's a comic character and nobody would recognise him in anythin...

Re: This weeks Dandy

I've now counted the ad pages in several Beanos, and I keep being surprised by how few there really are - only one and a half pages of paid-for ads in this week's issue. Of course, adverts for DC Thomson products then chew up a further four pages or so, not forgetting the evil magazine-style content...

Re: 2012 Annuals

Sorry, but I don't see what the fuss is about. Whether the use of this logo is a good or a bad idea, the fact remains that it is a different idea from previous policy. Therefore, one must expect a comics forum to discuss it. Remember when Jamie Smart's redesigned logo was unveiled ? There seemed to...

Re: 2012 Annuals

That's the point - it isn't a new logo, it's an old one. It's the equivalent of an annual from the 80s using the logo from the 40s. Bellboy, anyone?

Re: Retro Beano pages this week..

I couldn't believe the amount of detail put into two panels of the house story - he even went as far as to draw individual faces for all the characters in front and a surprising number of those behind as well. Must have taken days! There's a good reason for the "grey lumpy splodge" phenomenon, or th...
