Re: Dandy Character Name Change Query - 1945/46
Charlie Chutney and Old Ma Murphy both first appeared in the Dandy in late 1944. The first annual in which they appeared was the Dandy Monster Comic for 1946 in which they were given the alternative titles Conrad the Cook and Miss Prom for the one and only time.. Why the title change? Possibly becau...

Re: What are you reading during the lockdown
The Babes 'n' the Bullies were indeed in the Dandy issues as quoted by Steve 1452-1460 in Sept/Nov 1969 but Trevor had drawn those strips over five years earlier in 1963. The strip had first appeared in print in the Dandy Book for 1964..

Re: Comics on TV
The Victor comic in question was No 245 (30/10/65). This was at the time I was reading Victor regularly as a boy and it was perhaps my favourite boy's title back then. The contents of the issue in question were as follows with artists responsible appended Daredevil Douglas (cover story) - Tony Colem...

Re: Looking for Bash Street/Beano story
Hi Brad,
I think, giving Bash Streets' 66 year history , you'll have to be a bit more specific than that!

The artist in question was Argentinian Enrique Alcatena.stevezodiac wrote: ↑09 Oct 2019, 10:19As someone addicted to naval history novels I'd certainly like to see a Commando featuring Fighting Tom Cochrane from the Victor. Superbly drawn in the few issues I've seen. Who was the artist?

Re: Mystery book
Hi Stevious, There is certainly no book listed in the British Library catalogue with the title 'Rosy/Rosie Apples' so it seems unlikely that that would have been the title. There were all sorts of annuals and gift books being published in the late Victorian and Edwardian period that could have had t...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Maybe it's just me Derek. I think that if I had 2135 issues of Bunty and only 114 to acquire I would certainly be more than a little excited about the possibility of completing the run regardless of the usefulness of some of those issues to enhance my researches or not. I'm also more than a little i...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Earlier in the week I ordered 13 issues of BUNTY (eleven from 1958 : two from 1960) from 30th Century Comics. They arrived this morning, suitably bagged and protected as always. I'm very happy with them. I now only have 114 issues missing from the full run, very few of them being contiguous. I rang...

Re: Looking for help in identifying vintage comic
Merry-Thought & Scraps as a combined title only lasted for 21 issues from 7th May 1910 to 24th Sept 1910 so it would appear, assuming that the magazine in the photo was current at the time the photo was taken and not something picked up in the dentists waiting room from years before that the holiday...

Fifty years ago today..... Dudley Watkins.
It was fifty years ago this morning that Dudley Watkins was found dead at his desk by his wife Doris. He had suffered a heart attack, aged 62 and, because his work has been in print so often since his death, it hardly seems credible that he has been gone so long. He was a one off and, to me, he was,...

Re: Commando Announcement
I think Digi was referring to those Thomson girls titles that had a picture library associated with them Derek, namely Bunty, Judy, and Debbie. I've just been upstairs to my second bedroom, Ray, which is so full of boxes that for the time being I have no idea where my collections of DEBBIE Picture ...
