Re: The Viz Parodies
you're more than welcome, Pat! I felt that VIZ teetered into somewhat dubious territory a few years back, when it started introducing black-as-the-ace-of-spades type humour: ie: a macabre satire featuring those arch do-badders HAROLD SHIPMAN and FRED WEST. This reeked of desperation...perhaps circu...

Re: The Viz Parodies
Gilbert Ratchet . Timothy Tester (though not in look). I'm pretty sure Gilbert Ratchet is a spoof of Screwy Driver from The Dandy. Lew yes, that's closer in fact. That's more the look. The path of a youngster who is always building daft machines is a well-trodden one - and one which an unMenaced, u...

Re: Scanning comics
...As you know Rab (but for those of you who don't) when you're self employed you don't "claim back" your expenses like, say, a salesman could from his boss. The amount is merely deducted from your profit before tax is calculated. In the case of computer equipment the amount is spread over several ...

Re: The Original Dennis The Menace
Mistake: Beryl is a Topper and Dandy character, not Beano. depends whether "The Beano stable" is defined as DC Thomson I suppose... That's an unreconstructed Dennis pictured in that article, which refers to him as "the Menace" throughout. Wonder why this story has surfaced just as Dennis has been u...

Re: The Viz Parodies
welcome to the site, Pat. Thanks! In comparison to reading about Nazi atrocities, [to take an extreme example] VIZ is 'kid's stuff' though their best work was a breath of fresh air, blowing away the cobwebs of much of the stuffiness of traditional UK comics...... I would characterise it as a cloud ...

Re: The Viz Parodies
Looks like the VIZ section is likely to be a real pandora's box..... We know what Roger Mellie would post. I think VIZ and family-friendly don't mix very well without scrupulous self-censorship by posters. I never do an "unsafe" search myself - just looking for something innocuous, like a towel, ca...

Re: Is anyone still reading 2000AD?
Hello all! I'm a new member so I hope you'll excuse me if I resurrect an ancient thread. What's more, one started by the bloke from round Countesthorpe way who made me join YouSpace(?) and last posted to by Nuneaton's Mr. Yampy himself! (no, not Larry Grayson). ;) I am a long-standing comics fan sin...

Re: The Viz Parodies
Unfortunately Pointless ... of St Bridgets, Korky the ..., and Greedy ... got bleeped. Seems those titles are too rude for this forum! I self -bleeped mine. This is a comics forum, after all. Speaking as the n00b, I don't want to get the site onto the kind of "not suitable for children" / "n...

Re: Do Ve Haff Vays off Findink Out Who Speaks German at VIZ?
The Bacons one is really taking the mickey out of the Bacons formula using made up German words, I seem to remember 'dish isch resemblich mutha?' or 'this looks thinke mutha if it were in english, or as close to english as the Bacons speak! yes, but there words are made up by someone who speaks Ger...

Re: The Viz Parodies
I had to laugh at The Pointless **** of St Bridgets . Surely the best-ever girls' story parody concept was called something like " The Forty-Nine Marys " though I believe it may have been in one of the short-lived wannabe VIZ rip-offs. Not enough info to google it. I can't provide all the reference ...

Fire away Pat, and welcome to the forum. I'll start off another topic though and begin, putting them all on will prove quite a massive job! still gives me an excuse to go through my collection! I'll see what you post and just add some more, which will be simplest. It'll be hard to beat The Clockwor...

Re: Someone has to be first don't they?
In my opinion the funniest Viz strip ever was when Student Grant went to watch Ai No Corrida (if you don't know, don't google with safesearch off!) because "it's four hours long and in Japanese so it's going to be brilliant!". I've got the annual it was in somewhere. didn't they have someone recogn...

Do Ve Haff Vays off Findink Out Who Speaks German at VIZ?
- pronounced "FITS" of course. My first thread, so a subject that combines two of my favourite interests: foreign language and silliness. I was reminded of this when I saw the "True-Life Dame Vera Adventure" in VIZ no.189 where Dame Vera Lynn is secretly substituted for Geoff Hurst in the 1966 World...

Re: Copper Bolt
Hello everybody. First post. I was the original asker of that question and thanks to 1) digifiend and 2) Steve for 1) pointing me here and asking the question for me and 2) answering the question. :notworthy: :notworthy: Looking at the strip again, I was saying to myself that it was as though "Stupi...
