Re: Why are men collecting old girls' comics these days?
I have been collecting some Eagles because I like The Thirteenth Floor, which originally came from Scream!

Re: Why are men collecting old girls' comics these days?
I have heard that girls' comics always had their male readership, and have seen letters on letter pages to the effect. I remember in the Tammy letters page a reader kept finding her Tammy was late and then found out it was because the delivery boy kept reading it himself before dropping it in! Perha...

Re: Spot the story
How come nobody at all these tennis tournaments ever comments on what the hell the racquet is doing chained to a player's wrist? How do you know they didn't, Tammyfan? I didn't happen to mention it but spectators will have been doing so at every tournament she played in. However, to keep harping on...

Re: Spot the story
Incidentally, how did Chained to her Racket! end? With somebody taking to that chain with a pair of cutters and well and truly sorting out that fanatical father, I hope! The serial ran in Judy 603 (Jul. 31 1971) - 618 (Nov. 13 1971). I have amended my earlier post where I gave 604 as the starting i...

Re: Looking for story?
Yes, we need more specifics. The description sounds rather confused and vague. For a start, was it a boy or a girl on a dolphin? If it was a boy, was he the main character or a supporting character helping the heroine? What was his or her role in the story? What's the villain's role? What's the prob...

Re: Sci-Fi strips in girls comics
Of course there was also 'The Steel Claw', where Louis Crandall had to stick his finger in a power socket whenever he began to run low on juice. I can't help feeling that this set a rather dangerous example for impressionable young children! Those later strips by Leo Davy show a real talent...

Re: Sci-Fi strips in girls comics
I have already posted an example of 'The day of the Triffids on the 'Girl' comic thread, but thought I would mention it again on here. It was drawn by Leo Davy and ran in 'Girl' comic in 1964. After the triffids had finished it was followed by another sci-fi strip called 'The Pendragon stranger' th...

Re: Girl comic 1950s-60s
I don't recall DCT doing it, though; it was more IPC. As a matter of fact I do remember one of DCT's boys' comics featuring a strip with a similar premise in which the whole of the British Isles were taken over by a malignant plant which wiped out 99% of the population. I'd be inclined to think it ...

Re: Girl comic 1950s-60s
They did a lot of adapations from books and television serials. Moon Stallion, A Horse Called September and Queen Rider, to name but a few. I don't recall DCT doing it, though; it was more IPC.

Re: Lucky's Living Doll
When exactly did LLD start? Can confirm myself - week ending 16/11/1963. Just recently got a copy of Schoolfriend for the week before that - and in the caption at the bottom of the concluding episode of Rob MacGilivray's Maypole & The Swimming Pool is news an exciting new strip starts next week. Al...

Re: tracy comic
@Digifiend: thank you. I guess it wouldn't be complete without the issue where Tracy merged with Judy. Looks like Judy's celebrating her 25th too. A new friend, new blood and a budgie for your birthday eh, Judy? Cover artist is Norman Lee. http://i932.photobucket.com/albums/ad163/bmcoote/Judy...

Re: tracy comic
@Phoenix: Glad you find the Tracy info useful. Yes, I have now realised that Helen did not begin with the merger now that I understand that 1306 is the merger issue. I have already fixed the start to Judy #1301 or thereabouts. Any chance of scans for #1304, by the way? Thanks.

Re: tracy comic
@Phoenix. Okay, thanks. By the way, I have the Judy & Tracy #1306 merger issue, dated 19 January 1985 - the same day that Tracy ended. Now, I've never heard of a final issue and a merger on the same day before. It's also very odd to start to start a new serial in a final issue, even if it was meant ...
