Re: My Comic Art Masterclass

Has 'modesty' been deleted from your dictionary, Kev? Your arrogant rantings in this and other posts is really beginning to grate! So don't click on his posts. Simple! I've known Kev for many years and he's a multi-talented bloke. Not everything he does is everyone's cup of tea but that's to be exp...

Which is a bit like someone saying they don't understand what people see in comedy films or sit-coms.

Four words: Ken Reid; comedy genius.

American phrases in British comics?!?

American phrases have been used in British comics for many years. No harm done. And "soccer", American or not, has been used numerous times in British strips for decades.

Re: dennis the Menace........Dennis the Menace...

Its funny what Americans think of our Dennis http://www.platypuscomix.net/otherpeople/dennithemenni.html I much prefer ours..... Gordon Bennett was very like Dennis the Menace in America... British comic humour is perhaps a bit too vulgar for some American tastes. I always found their Archie Comics...

Brand new Dan Dare strips!

If anyone here isn't already aware of it, there's a great publication called Spaceship Away which publishes brand new Dan Dare strips in the style of the original Eagle comic. The pages are even drawn by Don Harley, one of the original artists, and the comic is officially licensed from the copyright...

Re: Is Look-In a comic or a magazine?

Be great if they could collect the Space 1999, Sapphire & Steel etc into graphic novels. But then again IPC owns it, so probebly won't happen. Still, worth dreaming about... Chris I don't think IPC would still own the licence to those tv strips now. I believe that rights to tv strips belong to whoe...

Although at the time many older readers thought comics of that period were not "proper comics".

Is Look-In a comic or a magazine?

I must admit that, apart from the fantastic Mike Noble artwork on Timeslip I thought Look-In was far inferior to Countdown when both titles were launched in 1971. Obviously the rest of the country thought differently. :) While Look-In went from strength to strength (becoming the UK's top selling com...

Re: New Dr Who Adventures comic out.

None in the Stoke-on_Trent Smith's today. Would probably have passed on it anyway if it only has 1 6-page strip. Earl. I'm afraid that's the way comics are now. I think collectors would still find it worthwhile to buy issue one though, to have a representation of format of a 2006 Doctor Who comic. ...

Is Look-In a comic or a magazine?

I'd say the early years of Look-In would definitely put it in a "comic" category. After all, TV Century 21 had a lot of features in it too, and the pre-WW2 comics had 50% text stories, but they're still regarded as comics. As time passed, Look-In had less strips so I'd say it became a magazine. But ...

Re: Back Issues.

Also got this American edition. Actually all of those DC comics are American editions. Back in those days there were so many US comics imported to the UK that it was financially viable to print the UK price on the covers for those intended to ship to England. They just stopped the presses, changed ...

Re: New Dr Who Adventures comic out.

Captain Scarlet was a short run series shown only on Channel 5 in a hidden away slot, so unless it had built up a cult following it wasn't going to be a big hit. It had the same number of episodes as new Doctor Who (13) and was shown on ITV on Saturday mornings. Not as well promoted as Doctor Who a...
