Re: Who was Melody Lee?
I'd take the comments with a pinch of salt, even if it weren't a twenty five year old recollection. It's entirely possible he took some lyrics from the comic and filled in the rest to suit. Clearly there is some connection to the comic, it's just a matter of how closely they are linked.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I don't object to anything I can remove digitally when I scan the comic, since it's usually the scan I read; it being easier to look through folders on a hard drive than to search through large boxes of comics. Consequently I draw the line where the comic is defaced enough that I can't fix it in pos...

Re: A sex change for Thor
There was briefly a female Phantom in the 1960s - offhand that's the earliest example I can think of (though Superboy was turned into a girl at one point to 'teach him a lesson'!). - Phil R. Actually, you've just reminded me. The gender-bending goes right back to the Golden Age because one time the...

Re: A sex change for Thor
1956, surely? The Flash was the first, I think. Yes, it was the Flash I was thinking of, but I didn't bother to check. Fifty years ago seemed like a good enough round figure. There were a few. In March 1985, a female version of the previously male assassin Syonide appeared in Batman & the Outsiders...

Re: A sex change for Thor
I think whoever has the hammer (and who is 'pure' enough to be able to pick it up) is Thor. At least in the original origin story, which is the only Thor comic I have read! This is true, kind of. When Beta Ray Bill was found worthy he didn't turn into Thor, he turned into an alien version of Thor. ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
That's why it's always a good idea to bag your comics and store them properly. We had a minor flood a few years back and I had boxes of comics stacked in the hall (still do). The water got to the bottom boxes but all the comics were bagged so nothing was damaged except the boxes. I store my comics ...

Re: A sex change for Thor
I'd mostly agree with you there, Lew. But read Marionette's post that I was replying to where it is stated that objecting to "a character being replaced by a version that is black or female is quite specifically racist/misogynist". I would say it is mostly objecting to a character being replaced. T...

Re: A sex change for Thor
a character being replaced by a version that is black or female is quite specifically racist/misogynist No it's not. At least, not necessarily. Hercules is pretty similar to Thor but nowhere near as popular. Why? Because people like characters as much as stories. Change them (whether that be race, ...

Re: A sex change for Thor
The racism was me widening the discussion. It's now misogyny being discussed on this forum but it has recently been racism in the general comics world. I used the example of Heimdall. I feel not wanting race to change is the same as not wanting gender to change for most people. Not prejudice, just ...

Re: A sex change for Thor
Racism was the charge against readers objecting to Heimdall changing race in the movie. I suspect most just wanted a faithful comics adaptation. Col mentions misogyny again. I suspect very few readers are against Wonder Woman and would object just as ferociously to Diana Prince changing to David. I...

Re: A sex change for Thor
I must admit that I'd quite like to see Thor break down and reveal that he'd always secretly felt like a woman in a man's body, and then apply for gender-reassignment surgery after living and dressing as a woman for the required twelve months. Somehow I don't think that's the kind of 'sex change' t...

Re: A sex change for Thor
Marvel are having a bit of a shake up, and trying out some unusual ideas. Fanboys are melting in misogynistic rage, which would be hilarious if it wasn't so nauseating. I think it is due, in part, to the massive success of Superior Spider-Man , in which Peter Parker's brain was taken over by Doctor ...
