Re: Keyhole Kate

PETER GRAY, yes, I remember the cat too..in fact I seem to recall two or three of them in the house. I had to remove one that was sitting on top of a pile of Victorian comics I wanted to look at. I also remember him speaking about having to look after his sick mother (at the back of the house?), but...

Re: Keyhole Kate

ISPYSHHHGUY, I'm pleased the cover is of some interest - nice idea, thanks Rab. I bought this Dandy in the early 80s while at the late Norman Shaw's home in Upper Norwood, South London. Norman was a dealer in old British comics and his big old house seemed to be full to bursting with piles of old co...

Re: Keyhole Kate

STEEL CLAW, thanks for your advice on using an image hosting site. I'll check that out over the next few days. ISPYSHHHGUY, that Dandy cover of Keyhole Kate guest-appearing with Korky was really interesting. I've never even heard of this issue before. Do you have the issue number & date? As for why ...

Re: Keyhole Kate

Here's the cover. Sorry it is so small, but when I scan it at anything higher than 50dpi it exceeds the max file size and won't submit. Any tips on how to get around this problem?

Re: Keyhole Kate

Have managed to find issue 295 of Dandy with the Keyhole Kate cover.

Will post the back cover featuring the demoted Korky in a few minutes.

Re: Keyhole Kate

I've got this copy of the Dandy with the Keyhole Kate cover...but I'm blowed to know where I've filed it, which is a bit of a worry as it isn't where it should be! I'm working long night shifts until Monday morning, so won't be able to make a thorough search for it until then, but I will post it IF ...

Re: 45 years since the the first appearance of Frankie Stein!

klakadak, I had no knowledge of this Frankie Stein strip from Monster Fun Annual. As you say, it does look like Ken Reid, albeit greatly inferior to the work he produced in the the sixties. If this is Ken Reid, then I'm sure someone here will know. I just hope it isn't his work! I absolutely love Ke...

Re: HELP!

All I can add is that it lasted until (at least) issue 7 (dated July 31st to Aug 13th, 1987).

Re: 'widescreen' comics: original-format BEEZER and TOPPER

Kashgar, I never knew that Big One had reduced in size during the latter part of its run. Do you think it was an editorial decision taken to make Buster and Big One seem more compatible before amalgamation, or was it a last ditch attempt to stave off cancellation? I recall a A similar thing happenin...

Re: 'widescreen' comics: original-format BEEZER and TOPPER

ISPYSHHHGUY, here's a pic of Super Sunday No.1 alongside a copy of the Beezer for comparison. Lew, you weren't wrong to throw out your copy of Super Sunday - because it was rubbish. I promptly discarded my copy too, but bought another copy sometime in the 1990s. Can't believe it lasted 27 issues tho...

Re: 'widescreen' comics: original-format BEEZER and TOPPER

Following on from my last comment - Have just remembered another comic that was even larger than the Big One, although I'm not sure it can accurately be described as a comic. In the seventies Simavai Publishing produced a children's newspaper called SUPER SUNDAY. It comprised 8 pages, which were mai...

Re: 'widescreen' comics: original-format BEEZER and TOPPER

The Big One was indeed true to its name. According to my measurements it is just over 21 and a half by 15 inches. It had 12 pages, which featured reprinted comic strips from Knockout and elsewhere. Later in the run there was at least one strip that (I think) was new to the comic - A fat boy going by...

Re: Bob Monkhouse cartoonist and comic writer for the Beano!!

Have just read some of the previous comments I missed- and now think that Denis' book may have been incomplete. It does seem that Bob Monkhouse may have drew for the Beano, even if it was only perhaps a single strip. Does anyone have a copy of this Beano? Would love to see the strip.
