Re: What comics did you buy today?

Well, abacus, next time you're in 30th Century Comics, ask to have a look at their selection of digest comics. It's impressive. A number of dealers sell bags, boards, boxes designed for digest comics. I use them and also have a lot on shelves in the back room. But then, I do have rather a lot and no...

Re: The longest running comics that have never been renumber

Before I get on my hobbyhorse about digest size comics - and there are different sizes of digest comics - can I mention another English language comic breaking the 500 barrier? If that's o.k., The Phantom, published by Frew in Australia, is not a kick on the bahookie of #1800. :D Digest size. I have...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Unfortunately there isn't a listing on the page. Shame, that. I was looking forward to finding out what Phantom and/or Mandrake strips were in there.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I've heard of but only once seen a copy of King Comic and I've never set eyes on Family Favourites Comic. As the title suggests, King Comic featured King properties but what I didn't know till I looked it up was that Family Favourites Comic used Chicago Tribune - New York News Syndicate strips. As f...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Right Col, never mind Commando and put me out of my misery. Which Captain Marvel? The Big Red Cheese? Mar-vell? Monica Rambeau (Lady Marvel  ) Carol Danvers? Or one of in-betweenies? Or perhaps he whose name cannot be mentioned and must be called Shazam in case Marvel take the hump? I think we...

Edinburgh comic art festival

I hope some of you will turn up for this one. It's free and as I've read Rachael's School of Death (12th. Doc. and Clara) for the third time, I'll be there. http://edinburghcomic.com/?mc_cid=e5e63d2309&mc_eid=6142b2d6ae The venue is just off Leith walk and is a 10/15 minute walk from the back entran...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I've made a bit of a horlicks about the Buffalo Bill, I'm afraid. Should have checked CB+ (other sites are available and DCM is one of the good ones.) Here's the original Youthful BB #8:- http://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=32765 You'll see from the indicia, it's 1951, and the art, well, no Wildey...

Re: Is it a comic?

I'd been considering characters from way back but as Adam has mentioned Jenna Coleman, I'd happily agree with that. And as Babylon 5 is showing again tonight on one of the digital channels it reminded me that a lot of blokes I knew were huge fans of Claudia Christian as Ivanova. I think I may have h...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Adam, that's in interesting wee selection. If it's of interest, and I'm sure you know this, it's an Italian reprint. Tex is enormously popular in Italy and other European countries and I'm sure there is a Turkish movie, but they made movies about lots of characters and heroes. What you and anyone els...

Re: Is it a comic?

I feel so old reading some of these preferences, in fact, I'm not sure who some of them are. Gabrielle Drake in UFO, no problem, but digging around in my sieve like memory, I trawled up some of the actresses, or more likely the parts they played, that I admired at the time. I am the Diana Rigg fan, ...

Re: Two Unknown DC Thomson Artists.

Col drew my attention to this but I haven't a clue who the player is, which team it is or who drew it. Actually, I avoid anything to do with football. I was a fan and followed Airdrie when I was a teenager and I think that put me off.

Re: Scream and Misty merge for all-new comic

I bought Scristy&Meam this morning and read it an hour ago. Not all of the comic appealed to me and there were parts I did not enjoy at all. Not being a fan of vampire fiction, the Dracula piece put me right off. It seemed to me a bit nasty. As I don't see colours very well, it took me a short while...

Re: What year did you start reading comics?

Re. Rupert. You're correct Phil. I had overlooked/forgotten the single panel instalments. Is that a unique example of a single panel, newspaper strip serial? If so, I've found another variation :D As far as the annuals are concerned, they fit perfectly within the description, text strip. I've said i...
