Re: Dandy-Beano Summer Special 1963

There was a seperate cover on the back page of the special: part 2 of the cover gag. I wonder if this came as part of the package?

Just to clarify - it was the artwork for the front cover of Beano No.1406 from 1969 that was sold. The Biffo story promoted that year's Summer Special, including a ...

Re: Dandy-Beano Summer Special 1963

What, so the Bash Street Super Kids story (which was revealed to be Danny's dream, so it sounds like that not what you're referring to) in one of the Beano annuals wasn't the only time they did that then?

It may have been the Bash Street Kids special around 1998. They did it again the following ...

Re: Dandy-Beano Summer Special 1963

Gosh! How much did you get it for? I'd have thought there'd be quite a lot of deep-pocketed competition from the States for that. Well done!

...Unless, of course, it's one of those Bryon Whitworth facsimiles from a few years back.

Hi Phil! I've got one of those facsimilies for the Argonauts ...

Re: Dandy-Beano Summer Special 1963

Given that this usually sells for about £500 in fine condition, I am staggered to see no less than 6 bidders at the £800 mark. :o I think we will have to accept that this was not simply a bidding frenzy between two avid collectors (as I first thought) but a sea-change in how this comic is regarded ...

Re: The 10 most valuable comics.

Picking up on chrissmillie's Top10 British values list (with one issue per title but then also adding other landmark issues of the same title), how about this for a Top 20:

Beano 1
Dandy 1
Marvelman 25 (1st appearance)
Viz 2 (harder to find than No.1)
Viz 1
Action 37
Magic 1
Dandy Beano Summer ...

£1,100 on Action No.37 - the one that never made it to the newsagents.

(Well, you did ask! :) )

Re: IPC and Egmont. Who owns what characters?

[quote:687507c454]I wonder about Whizzer and chips as it came out in 1969...or did it just make it to be owned by Egmont?[/quote:687507c454]

I understand that the exact cut off was June 1969, so the Whizzer & Chips characters belong to Egmont.

Re: Mystery comic - anyone seen this before?

I put my hand up. It was me. I couldn't resist it and it will make a very interesting addition to my collection. I've been collecting comics for 35 years and recently moved into original comic art. I instantly recognised it as an unpublished piece when the COMPAL catalogue arrived. As soon as it's ...

EBAY HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR!

I've seen the combined Dandy-Beano 1963 special go for over ?500 and the Beano 1964 special top ?700. All very rare stuff. For a long time I thought the 1964 special didn't exist!

Bookshops closing....the cause?

I hear that Kims in Worthing is closing as the site has been sold for redevelopment. However I don't recall seeing any comics in there anyway. As previously mentioned its Badgers that has those - mainly American but ranging from the 1960's to the latest imports, with fresh stock at least monthly ...

Killer Strips!

Needless to say, the Trigan Empire in Look & Learn. Also Mickey the Monkey in the Topper - too many laugh out loud moments in that strip not to pick it up.
