Re: Comics Collected

Those are some interesting comics. That Jim Crow character is very dated... What are other people's oldest comics in their collections? I have a copy of Illustrated Chips from 1904 and a Funny Wonder from 1915 with Charlie Chaplin on the cover. However after reading this http://lewstringer.blogspot....

Re: The unofficial history of the Beano

I've been waiting for this to come out. Looks like an interesting read. I intend to buy a copy in a couple weeks.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I went to a charity shop and they had a box full of Beanos and Dandys that they were advertising for free. I found the Beano and Dandys from the week I was born and when I got to the till they said they even more in the back. I ended up leaving the shop with about 200 Beanos (no duplicates and none ...

Re: Told in Pictures - Dudley D Watkins

Thank you for answering my question.

I wonder if the answer was in Ray Moore's Topper Tales index. I dont have a copy myself. I've only managed to get hold of his Beezer index.

Re: Told in Pictures - Dudley D Watkins

Were these the same picture stories that were printed in early issues of the Topper?

Re: The Art and History of the Dandy

I've just re-read this amazing book as I was feeling nostalgic towards the Dandy as we approach 10 years since the comic's closure. Overall the book is amazing, I love the details on all the artists and the inner workings of the Dandy office and the reprints of classic strips. My nitpicks though: It...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

I saw on ebay a complete privately printed collection of Ken Reid's Jonah and Jinx strips in the Beano. It was on sale for a few hundred pounds and got no bids. I'd love a more official DC Thomson release of this, but not at that price.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I bought 4 old issues of Buddy for sale at a 2nd hand shop for a pound. I've never seen a copy of it before "in the wild" but its an interesting comic. Jonah on the back page was the main reason I bought it. But its interesting seeing how its full of old Beano Adventure characters as well as assume ...

Re: Collecting comics within a budget

I see old issues of 2000AD sold quite a bit in comics shops. But they aren't really my cup of tea.

Re: Collecting comics within a budget

I very rarely see old comics in shops. I do see the occasional old annual from the 1950s but usually for comics I don't particularly like, like Lion and Radio Fun.

Re: DC Thomson Annuals

I know this is a very old thread, but I didnt want to create a new one. I've been looking at DC Thomson Annuals myself in particular Bananaman. Just looking at a Bananaman Annual 1984 for sale on eBay and it doesnt look like a DC Thomson one (the rest are). The selling even has a picture of the lega...

Re: 300 issues strong

I completely agree with you Digifiend, I was repeating opinions that I dont agree with from certain blogs. The continued success of the Beano and the Phoenix goes to show it. I wonder if the Dandy would still be around if it had copied more of the Phoenix's approach. Focusing on subscriptions for ex...
