Re: British / American Comics in China

Here's Chic Young's 'Blondie', although interestingly in the Chinese version the names are reversed. The husband, Dagwood Bumstead, is called Blondie (白朗弟) "Bai lang di". From reading it, the wife (Blondie Dagwood) is not named. I only have three issues of this comic so she may have been named in ot...

Re: British / American Comics in China

Here's the other set of comics, from c1948, printed in Nanjing. Full of American comic strips. Comic title is "Comic World" (圖画世界 Túhuà shìjiè). I picked up three copies from the outdoor antiques market in Beijing back in November. Anything from this period in China is difficult to find. Some of the...

If you find any Commando or War ones, I will happily buy a couple off you just for the sake of being able to have some in the collection.
No problem, I'll keep my eye out for you!
Cheers,
Adam

British / American Comics in China

Hello everyone, Thought I'd share some recent finds I've had whilst working in China. The first lot are DC Thomson translations of Beano and Dandy. I assume they were done without DC Thomson's knowledge. However, the print quality on them are excellent, complete with thick card centres of masks and ...

? Free Gift Wild West Weekly

Hello all, second query on a free gift. I believe this may have come from the comic/magazine 'Wild West Weekly'. This is a small booklet, 'Half-a-million Redskins on the Warpath' printed by the Amalgamated Press. There's no other mention of a date or comic title. Has anyone come across this before? ...

Boloney Book Rover Comic Free Gift

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've last logged in, been busy working overseas but now thankfully back in the UK. Currently doing an inventory of things and came across this Rover Comic Gold Star Broadway 'Boloney Book' free gift. I think I got this a few years back off a bookseller in Manc...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

You're right their about jingoism. What I don't know is are they just a product of their time? Getting close to the outbreak of WW2, maybe this was just a reflection of the current mood of the country? As they are so difficult to find, I do not know what the early covers would look like. As per the ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Not quite today, but certainly recent purchases. I've started to collect early annuals with dust jackets. I've fallen in love with the designs of the 'Chums Annuals', however they are proving nigh on impossible to find with surviving dust jackets. So far, I've managed to find three (1925, 1936-7, 19...

'Monster Annual for Girls' - Possible Plagiarism

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew about 'The Monster Annual for Girls'" book by the Children's Press c1930. At 6cm thick, this really is a 'monster' book. This was a carboot find a few years ago but ever since, I have been seeking another copy with a dust jacket. I cannot find any others...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I decided to treat myself to the Dandy comic free gift, the 'Whirly Twirly' from issue #1663, 1973. After waiting many years for one to come up for sale, I decided it was a must buy for the collection!

Re: ROVER COMIC HELP NEEDED

Hello Phoenix, Thank you so much for your effort in searching through your comics. I understand your commentary, I actually called my grandfather again stating that the prizes listed was a "3D gun" but it didn't seem to ring a bell with him. Perhaps it was a letter sent into Rover but not actually p...

Re: ROVER COMIC HELP NEEDED

Hi again, I've talked to him and he doesn't recall a prize, he can just remember it being printed. I've managed to look through Comic Book Plus website and they have scans up until issue 1331 December 30th 1950.

Do you have 1951?
