Re: Swearing in the Beano!?

The one finger gesture is ancient but I wasn't aware of it being used in the UK until the 1980s when it appeared in some American films. So I'm guessing Leo might not have been aware of it either in 1960. Wow! Is this true? Excuse my age (27) but I had no idea it was a relatively new hand gesture i...

Re: Beano The Three Bears First Appearance

Ah, that's great, thanks for the info!

I'm got some Beano comics up for auction later tonight and I'd listed this one as "First Three Bears". I was going by the "Starts Today" next to the title. I'll update the listing to say first regular appearance, 4 week trial occurred previously.

Cheers,

Adam

Beano The Three Bears First Appearance

Hi all, Anyone know much about the Three Bears? I have a copy of Beano Comic #952 October 15th 1960. Next to the title of "The Three Bears", it says "Starts Today". I thus assumed that this was the first time they appeared in the comic, however, according to the Beano website, they first appeared in...

Swearing in the Beano!?

Hi all, Recently picked up a stash of 1950s/60s Beano just noticed swearing in the comic! Inside issue number 921 dated March 12th 1960, one of the bears in the Little Plum story is giving the one fingered salute! Would this be considered acceptable at the time? Was it overlooked? I may just be over...

Re: Rocket Comic 1956 Full Set

Hi guys! Really grateful for your comments and suggestions. I had noticed the ones on Compal over the weekend, I wonder if they were the same set of bound issues? I've always held the preference of having unbound comics even if they are a full year run. As for the Rocket Comics, I am looking out for...

Rocket Comic 1956 Full Set

Hi all, Would anyone have any knowledge of the rarity of the "Rocket" comic from 1956, the comic edited by the RAF hero Douglas Bader? I have a full set of the 32 issues. I have seen single issues sell on past eBay sales, however, I have not seen a sale with several issues or indeed a full set. Assu...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Brought about 30 issues of the Dandy from 2006 to 2008. I'm trying to get a full run.

Managed to complete the year 2007 but still desperately looking for issues of the "Dandy Xtreme" from 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Re: Dandy 60th Birthday Issue - 'Personal Presentation Copy'

Re the readership figure of 451,00: note that they carefully say "readership", not "sales". It wouldn't surprise me if they assumed that each copy sold was read by several people (siblings, friends, even parents), and inflated sales accordingly. I thought that seemed very high! A marketing trick th...

Re: Lion Comics - Issues with Free Gifts

Hi all,

I've just checked the back end of my eBay shop, I assumed that when I request eBay to start the auction at 19:00, it would start dead on 19:00.

According to eBay, they are set to go live at 03-Feb 19:10:33.

Has anyone else had this problem before? Is it a normal thing for eBay?

Dandy 60th Birthday Issue - 'Personal Presentation Copy'

Hi all, Does anyone know about 'Personal Presentation' copes of the Dandy's 60th Birthday issue? I've recently purchased this as a curio addition to my collecting but have never seen one before. From the description inside, I can only assume they sent out copies for companies to try and gain adverti...

Re: Whoopee No.3 Free Gift - 'Spooky Snap Cards'

No problems! I was shocked to find it still inside, although Whoopee was before my time (I was born in 1987), I know for certain that I would have played with these!
