Re: Funny Face Maker Free Gift

Sorry for the error in the previous post, I was cut short and had to pop out briefly. I will upload some more images of the item once it has arrived. I'm really hoping it arrives safely and promptly, in all my years of eBaying I have only ever had one non-delivery! Big annoyance about this though is...

Funny Face Maker Free Gift

I may have taken a slight gamble here, however, I am certain I've just won the Funny Face-Maker free gift given away in the Dandy comic #1772 from November 8th 1975; http://imageshack.us/f/444/34284443.png/ It was advertised as being from the Cracker Comic no. 4, however, it looks identical to the o...

Re: The Art and History of the Dandy

I must admit that, although I do like the cover, a similar version to the History of the Beano would have been better.

Dandy Competition Gift

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen a Dandy competition items given away in 1987. It was called a Peloc and described as "an outdoor game for all the family. The Paloc resembles a giant 3-legged shuttlecock and is hurled from play to player using a light-weight metal sling". I've got pictures of ...

Re: New Dandy Logo in 1960

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is a printing error, but, I came across a Dandy comic with a red banner at the bottom of the front cover which I thought was used for the Beano? I have always seen Dandy comics with a blue banner at the bottom. Although I do have a few gaps in the weeks before this copy ...

Re: Greetings!

I like your comments Swirly Thing. As stated in my previous posts, I find it intersting looking at some of the adverts from the 1980s and 1990s. At times yes there was a bit too many and I would rather have more comics, however, looking back they do show off culture and what was popular at the time!

Not much said about it on dictionary.com...

spiflicate or spifflicate (ˈspɪflɪˌkeɪt) — vb school slang ( Brit ) ( tr ) to destroy; annihilate [C18: a humorous coinage]

Great word though!

Re: Greetings!

Fair comments there, I think I will for 50p etc. Mind you, in view of historical interest, I was reading some of my early 1990s issues the other week and my jaw dropped in astonishment at one of the adverts. It was a full page Nintendo ad for the first gameboy. You could buy it new with a free game ...

Re: Dandy comics post 1970

I've found that charity shops are actually over pricing stuff now in shops! They don't have the knowledge of what sells etc. All they do is go on AbeBooks or eBay auctions and look at the top selling price. It's not comics, but, I was very annoyed with my local hospice charity shop when to got hold ...

Re: The Art and History of the Dandy

According to my flyer, it will be published on August 6th. It will be in hardback, 285 x 229mm and 288 pages long. An overview is given below. "The Art and History of the Dandy is a chronicle of 75 years of comic violence and madcap antics from the likes of Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat, Beryl the Pe...

Re: Dandy comics post 1970

Good point about comics and charity shops! Mind you, (although it was when I was 15 some 9 years ago now), I went into Oxfam in Stafford and noticed that had a few 80s issues out. At that point I didn't have a great deal of comics in runs before 1990. I took them to the till and was asked if I colle...

Reading comics CAN make your smarter!

I thought I would start this discussion after I read a 1953 Beano Book and came across a word I have never heard before! Subsequently I wanted to use this blog to find out what things you might have learnt from uk comics! In this instance, the word is "Gamp". In a Biffo story, it starts raining and ...

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

Sorry if I'm repearting stuff, but, I highly recommend going to see The Pirates! in an Adventure With Scientists!

The film is absolutely hilarious and a feast on the eye for any fan of claymation. The Pirates! adventure books by Gideon Defoe are also worth reading to!

Re: Dark Shadows

I went to see the film last night and I went in with an open mind. I also like Johny Depp and due to my age, have horribly only heard of Dark Shadows in reference to this new film. As a film, I actually found it a good laugh and enjoyable, its no oscar winner to be sure, but, enjoyable and certainly...
