Did you read comics before 1937?
I have some old annuals and childrens storybooks from before 1937 (specifically the "Bumper book for boys" from 1935, a "Book for boys" which appears to be the same vintage, but could equally be from the 40's or 50's, and the 1908 Chatterbox annual that i found for ?12 buried in Oxfam), and theyre q...

Anyone know much about these.
I think some comics and storypapers sold overseas where "paid for" by having a 4-page 'jacket' around them with adverts specific to that country (as ones about the Royal Navy wouldnt have been much use to Americans), which would result in different looking covers. Some newspapers do that now with st...

Humour in Commando Comics
I liked the bit in "Buzz Bomb Brady", something along the lines of "He was gently reminded it wasn't polite to shoot down your own squadron leader"

Commando's 4,000th edition
The Judge Dredd Megazine also did an article on it, typically late (i was always expecting them to do a feature on Life On Mars back when they had a "Cult TV" page, but they ignored it in favour of that crap Lost. They only mentioned it at all as an afterthought at the end of an article on cop shows...

I havent seen the artist on Taxi! drawing any other ones, though i hope he stays because he's pretty good. They tried out another artist a while ago who's style was pretty messy... it ruined the otherwise gripping tale "Deep Secret" for me. I loved Demon Driver, but then i like classic cars XD. I go...

My WHSmith has stopped stocking Commando
Smith's in Lincoln stopped for a while then started again. They did the same with Judge Dredd Megazine. Makes you wonder how they can sell "Classic Tractor" and other such guff which probably has a much lower circulation. This other place in Lincoln called Ruddocks has all sorts of magazines on obsc...

New Commando/Battle Large paperbacks
There seems to be confusion in some quarters over which books there are, the Amazon listing for ANZACS vanished at one stage XD. So far there is... Commando: The Dirty Dozen (also known as "The 12 best Commando comic books ever!", this edition appeared in cheap shops and had a different cover and wa...

Massacre for boys
Anybody ever heard of this? Thier current wares are a very "Commando" or "Battle" influenced strip called "Walking Wounded", featuring the usual "mismatched misfits who the army don't want but who are actually the best in the business" storyline. The first issue is extremely confusing, but the secon...

SA issue 9 - now out
I looked at a few at Bristol, but the stand was far too crowded for somebody as shy as me to get the people's attention. Good to know more than one comic fan in Britiain is more interested in home-grown stuff and not granite-jawed clones in stupid costumes punching each other and screaming "NNNOOOOO...

For Valour - classic British webcomic
Hmm, so the number of "Boys' own" webcomics might finally increase beyond one. The one in question being my own Eugene Manx ( http://www.fagshategod.co.uk/comics/manx/ ). Also nice to see something that's not a parody for once, though the titles still sound suspiciously derivitave... i know the genr...

LATEST COMMANDO MISPRINTED.
Not quite as major, but it seems current issues are supposed to have a "Flying School" (picture of a training aircraft) and a "March Past" (An old soldier's uniform and equipment) in each issue. However issue 4040 (Days of Fear) has two "March Past"'s and 4041 (Taxi!) has two "Flying School"'s

Racism in comics
While not exactly a comic, i have a 70's reprint of a story from The Gem of 1929, and the reprints provided are complete issues, so also include the features, editorial and the 'second story' which was a serial in short instalments, the one in those issues is called "All on his own" and has some ver...

Some interesting features in some old annuals i have, sometimes more interesting than the comics! For instance the Hurricane 1969 has a feature about underwater cities of the future, Tiger 1974 has one about fingerprinting, complete with photos of a vast, non-computerised fingerprint database at sco...

What tv shows past and present could be adapted for comics?
Life On Mars couldnt really be turned into a children's comic strip, however a comic adaption would still be excellent. They could do things it would have been impossible to do in the series without a budget of millions per episode... like a chase with Capris through the town centre and not down obs...
