Re: Christmas

This is kind of related, I really like this "Santa's Puzzle Picture" from the 1936 Teddy Tail's Annual which claims "There are over 20 objects in this picture beginning witht he letter 'S'". Trouble is there are no answers listed in the book. I used this as the Picture Round for the Pub Quiz I do in...

Re: HELP - 1910s The Empire Library

Really need to get round to listing it online. I've had an Aladdins cave of comics recently that I am sorting for people and enjoying reading items from the 1910s through to the 1960s!

Re: Eagle - Odd Religious advert in Picture Post 1952

Phil (Philcom55) - Is it true!? Just reading that article you sent me the link to, In a book published in 1949 Geoffrey Trease began something of a witch-hunt against Enid Blyton, of all people, whom he accused of polluting children's minds with anodyne fantasies which left them ill-equipped to deal...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?

They are charing £1 each!?! That'll mean they'll be sitting in the shop for a while? Katherine House Hospice in Stafford had a load of 1990s Beanos, I swear in one lot of 25 issues they were asking £30.00.

Re: Eagle - Odd Religious advert in Picture Post 1952

No problems colcool007, your definately right about this insight into moral views. It had never crossed my mind that there was this negative attitude towards these comics. I can't recall anytime reading comics for moral purposes or anyone from my teachers, parents, family or friends parents etc disc...

Re: HELP - 1910s The Empire Library

Thanks Steve and Phoenix! This has been really helpful. From the scant information I found before posting on here, it seemed that there was a disagreement between writers / editors. I think I will best view it as an obscure oddity in comics publications? Ignoring the war years, do we know if there w...

Eagle - Odd Religious advert in Picture Post 1952

Hi all, Firstly please excuse my ignorance if this is common knowledge. I've been surprised at the the contents of an advert for The Eagle comic inside a copy of Picture Post from 1952. Inside the front cover is a full page advert which makes me rethink what I knew of Eagle comic (which I must admit...
