Re: UK comics greats at Enniskillen Comic Fest

I'll be there :) Got a pass out from the wife to come down on Friday night rather than just for the day on Saturday.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Buster Book 1983 (including what looked like early Nick Brennan art, but Nick confirmed it wasn't. Identified elsewhere as probably Russell Brookes)
Whizzer and Chips Annual 1979
Krazy Annual 1981

Not bad!

Re: 2000ad exhibiion at the Cartoon Museum (London) - Jan 20

It's really good, takes up a decent amount of downstairs in the Cartoon Museum. You get to compare Mick McMahon's original artwork for the first spread of the final episode of the Cursed Earth on the wall with the Prog in a case in front, and there is lots of absolutely gorgeous work, including some...

Re: Who is the current Broons/Oor Wullie artist?

Lew's confirmed that it's Diego Jourdan Pereira.

Diego drew Ivy the Terrible for some time a few years ago.

Re: 2017 Annuals

I think the extra panels are a bit of a quid pro quo for the annuals having shrunk from 144 pages as late as possibly the 2000s and certainly the 1990s to 96 pages today. More panels, compared to 8 to a page back then, so arguably we are getting more story in less space. . The Dandy and Beano annua...

Re: Who is the current Broons/Oor Wullie artist?

DJP could have course be John Polland's initials.

Peter is still drawing Harry on the same page. Unless it's gone to reprint as well, I would have gone for either budget cuts or Morris Heggie has given up writing them - he of course succeeded David Donaldson

Re: Who is the current Broons/Oor Wullie artist?

I didn't see that week's, but they're reprints this week from the early 1980s. The Broons is by Peter, and Oor Wullie by John Polland.

More information here.

Re: Black Bob back in the Weekly News

By the mid-1970s, they were printing all nine frames of Black Bob with a title frame on the first page and a "Next episode" frame at the bottom of the second one. Space was created by shortening the captions and placing them on the frame rather than below. Many of the Weekly News strips were printed...

Re: Beano to get CGI revamp for YouTube generation

They are picked up on a Wednesday normally, a week in advance of publication (yes, TNT/Whistl are that rubbish) so if you subscribed after that, they come as back issues.

Re: 2017 Annuals

It was not the final cover. The in-comic ads carry a small print disclaimer that the Beano annual cover may be different (read: WILL be different) but I haven't had a chance to dig around and see if it's available in Belfast yet.

Re: DC Thomson advertises “Heritage Brands” editor

I found it interesting that they were advertising - I thought they had already replaced Morris Heggie as archivist, and of course this is combining his former role with that of Calum Laird.
