Re: This week's issue Take 2

I seem to be able to identify artists quite well so will try and figure out who draws what this week! :P

Re: No Hunt Emerson in the Beano lately???

Well Ratz seems to have got the axe, and I get the feeling Hunt was squeezed out in favour of newer talent. It's unfortunate, but there's only so many pages in the comic! Sadly that is true, I asked Hunt Emerson on Facebook a while back and Ratz have indeed been dropped. A great shame but like you ...

Re: Any new developments...??

Although apparently there are considering having another shot at The Digital Dandy and fixing all of the bugs.

Andy Fanton mentioned it in this blog post: http://www.andyfanton.com/2013/08/the-g ... ikes-back/

Re: Humour, adventure, or both?

There is of course a new(ish) comic on the market which combines humour strips and adventure strips, and indeed humourous adventure strips:- The Phoenix. It's not actually 'on the market' though- no Waitrose store I've ever been in has stocked it, despite The Phoenix claiming it's available in ALL ...

Re: 2014 Annuals

Got The Beano Annual 2014 and The Dandy Annual 2014. Haven't read either yet but have read a few pages that interested me, I love Andy Janes drawing Lord Snooty - would love to see Snoots back in The Beano again with Andy Janes drawing!

Re: Humour, adventure, or both?

Personally I like a mix of humour and adventure, given that the adventure is good. This is why I loved the content of The Digital Dandy, Wayne Thompson's 'Retro Active' was by far the best strip out of many brilliant strips and contrasted against the humour material perfectly. I wish we could see it...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

I believe Nigel's point is that all of this is common knowledge and practice. I was myself baffled by what you were proposing. What I was proposing about all of the schools being surveyed wasn't a serious point, I know it's ridiculous to think that could happen. My point I'm trying to make is that ...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

Harry, focus groups and surveys cannot possibly cover every school in the country. Each group can only cover a representative sample of social classes and school locations, but this is enough, especially when comparing data between focus groups where it is comparable (eg most schools across a parti...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

Point me in the right direction then please. I have no idea as of how to go about researching this topic. I'm sure you've heard of Google and your local library? In addition, there are dozens of posts on this forum about the inside workings of the comics business, a little searching will give you i...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

...Of course I know there was a time before emails, I just don't know how the editor is able to hear back from the readers otherwise. How about instead of just criticising me for my comments, you instead explain what it is I want to know? That's why I suggested you spent a little time researching y...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

Well how else do the fans get into contact with the editor to share their views? Clearly you can't on the website as they have to be approved by the Webguy and it seems that any negative comments about the comic on the website are rejected. My point I'm trying to make is that if the editor wants to...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

...It's all very well basing the comic off of the feedback you got back from the readers (ages 8-11) via email but it isn't enough... This is quite the most surreal notion of the day. Well how else do the fans get into contact with the editor to share their views? Clearly you can't on the website a...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

Very well-put, Andy. I must say I agree with a lot of what you have said then. Whilst I'm glad The Beano is changing and it's finding ways to live on by bringing in new artists and new ideas, I feel it's still not working. Whether The Beano likes it or not, they do have an older readership and whils...

Re: Beano - just for kids?

The thing is, and I make this point a lot, The Beano is a comic which likes to bring back old classics (as we saw in the first wave of Funsize Funnies with characters such as Little Plum, Lord Snooty and Biffo the Bear returning) and to most readers in the Beano's target audience, they have no idea...
