Re: What comics did you buy today?
A John Leng publication, from 1941. Never seen one before until I found this one on ebay a few days ago. Upon having a good internet search I could only find trace of one other, sold by Phil in 2007. Its quite a strange shape for an annual, 8.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches tall and quite thick. The ...

Re: The Adventures of Fudge the Elf
Might nip out and buy the first Beano book after the signing too and I wonder if the Manchester shops might have stocked the first Broons book as well. Now that would have been a great afternoon, and still left with a handful of change from a £1!

Re: Beano annual reprints
Speaking of these reprints the only one I've ordered is the edition for 1962 as it will make a nice present for my kid brother who was born in that year.

Re: Beano annual reprints
In regards to 1963 can anyone advise if it has art by Leo Baxendale and Ken Reid in it? The 1963 annual, with the bash street kids on the cover, does have Ken Reid art in it. I don't think it has Baxendale though. Comparing it to the 1961 annual the Little Plum, Minnie and Bash Street Kids strips l...

High Noon at 19.55!
At roughly five to eight this evening it will be interesting to see whether anyone has an itchy trigger finger and goes for Beano No1 for £25,000 on the philcomics auction site. The historical ripeness of the moment, the Beano's 80th birthday, may encourage someone to throw caution to the wind and b...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
Your bound volumes look absolutely beautiful Irmantas and you should be rightly proud of them but, for me, I have to say that I prefer comics in their 'natural' state. I have some bound volumes in my collection but they were bought to complete runs rather than for the love of the bound volumes thems...

Never Been Without A Beano.
Well here we are. It's 80 years ago today since the first issue of the Beano went on sale and I think it's a safe bet that there is not a single member of this forum who hasn't lived out there whole lives thus far in a world where the Beano didn't exist. By virtually any standards it would be hard t...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
I would imagine that the record breaking starting price is an indication that the owner is in no real hurry to sell it and only wants to see whether anyone is willing to pay such a price at this very special moment in the Beano's history for such an excellent copy of the first issue. After all if it...

Hi judomole, I've now managed to check all the annuals you mentioned and it's not in any of them afraid.

Re: Owd Bob and Black Bob
I have just discovered the book Owd Bob by Alfred Ollivant and I am struck by the similarities with Black Bob. Does anyone here know if Owd Bob was an inspiration for our intrepid D C Thomson writers? And if so, would you care to enlighten the rest of us? Hi Col, Kelman Frost, who wrote all the ear...

Re: How many issues of Charley's War are there?
if you can get hold of a copy of 'The Fleetway companion' by Steve Holland you'll find it' ace at answering this sort of question Adam Cheers Richard, I hadn't thought of that and I'm pretty sure I have a copy! The Fleetway Companion says this about 'Charley's War' Battle 1) WWI 6/1/79-26/1/85 2) W...

Re: Big news for Ken Reid fans!
Just received my copies of the four Ken Ried art posters. They look absolutely great. I'm so glad that I paid the extra postage to have them sent separately. It would have been sacrilege to have had them sent folded.
