Re: Bash Street Kids cloned in cloned storyline
There is something a little odd about this though. Vic Neill - artist for Billy Whizz, Tim Traveller and The Germs at the time (and before that, The McTickles, Plug etc.) died in 2000. I once picked up a number of old Beanos dating from 1999-2001. In the earliest of these from May '99, Neill was sti...

Re: Wikipedia
Yes, but you have to watch out when referencing the History of the Beano book. Most of the information is reliable (and correct as far as I know) but when I was looking through I found a couple of mistakes. For example, why was Steve Horrocks credited for drawing Billy Whizz (he only ghosted a few s...

Re: Bash Street Kids cloned in cloned storyline
Returning to the subject of recurring stoylines, it is weird how some characters with supposedly limited premises, like Keyhole Kate and Billy Whizz (who was expected to last a year until ideas dryed up), can go on for years, but sometimes other characters have been underutilised. For example, I thi...

Re: Billy Whizz
Thank you Kashgar. It's really cleared it up for me now. I assume it was David Parkins who drew the first strip with the tracksuit? It isn't unusual for changes to be made for an established comic character, but what did make it odd was the fact that the changes were generally accepted, perhaps beca...

Re: Billy Whizz - how did he get his skill?
As a long time Whizz fan, I have always thought that he runs at least as fast as the speed of sound, and probably faster than that. I don't think he is as fast as the speed of light. He normally seems to run at something like 500 miles per hour, but can go even faster if he wants to (certainly, he h...

Re: Reader request idea...posters like World-wide Weirdies...
It would be interesting to see a full list of all the artists who have written their own scripts. I think Mike Pearse, Kev F, Jamie Smart and Gary Northfield all write their own stories - is there anyone else? (or wrote in Mike's case - I haven't seen any new work from him since 2006)

Re: Reader request idea...posters like World-wide Weirdies...
Tam is a cracking artist who's been doing great work for years in a number of different comics. His strips have featured a number of little jokes in the background and plenty of detail to see, not to mention his trademark smelly sock! I think his best work was probably on Calamity James in the late-...

Re: Billy Whizz
You're right there digifiend. Actually, I've been reading this forum for a few years, but I've only joined very recently.
Mind you, so far every post I've made has been about Billy Whizz or The Bash Street Kids!

Re: Bash Street Kids - rare black and white strip.
In the first Bash Street Kids story, only Danny and Toots appeared. Well, actually, the strip was called 'When the Bell Rings' back then, only adopting its more familiar title in 1956. Back in the Leo Baxendale days, there were at least three other named kids - Teddy (a teddy boy, who was dropped on...

Re: Billy Whizz
Regarding the 70th birthday strip, I'm a big Wallace and Gromit fan, but I hadn't thought of the Wrong Trousers link to that strip. I noticed the homages in the other stories though - especially Biffo and The Bash Street Kids. I can't believe Lew Stringer posted in my first topic! (You're doing a ve...

Regarding Smiffy, I seem to recall in one Classics from the Comics that his full name was Claude Smith.

Re: Billy Whizz
Thanks digifiend! It is funny though the way that they have chosen some of the Billy Whizz reprints - when they first started using them a couple of years ago, they mainly showed the red T-shirt David Parkins strips, then after several months there seemed to be no real pattern - strips from David Pa...

Billy Whizz
Hi! New member here wanting to know a bit more about his favourite comic character. I would be very interested to know when Billy Whizz first started wearing his red and black tracksuit (with zigzag down the front). The exact issue number would be great. Also, when did Vic Neill change his hairstyle...
