Re: The DFC rises again... as PHOENIX
Do you think The Phoenix is aware of The Phoenix, Ireland's best selling satire magazine? http://www.thephoenix.ie/phoenix/welcome.do It's their equivalent of Private Eye, and I see it a lot on my frequent trips over there. I doubt the existence of The Phoenix will much affect sales of The Phoenix t...

Comic Art Masterclasses in schools
My, but I've been busy preaching comics to kids in my Comic Art Masterclasses. Here are some of the recent front covers from their productions, from schools in Dublin, Birmingham, Kidderminster, Wiltshire, and elsewhere. http://utproductions.co.uk/comicsmay2411email.jpg http://utproductions.co.uk/co...

Re: Is anyone still reading 2000AD?
I happened across my collection of 2000AD annuals while tidying my office today. They're mostly sh*t, aren't they? Ironic for the version of 2000AD that'll remain in most collections in most ordinary homes, these books (and I thumbed through the annuals from 1979 to 91, which is I think all of them ...

No DFC in Guardian & Tokyopop closing. What's this tell us?
I may well have put all of this topic in the titles, but to extend the sentence a bit: This week The Guardian has started running a comic section for the holidays, as it did two years ago. However, whereas two years ago this section was used as a means of trailering and launching the ambitious DFC c...

Re: This weeks Dandy
Just chipping in with another report from the chalkface (ie my Comic Art Masterclasses in schools) where The Dandy is increasingly recognised and popular. Of the comics I scatter around the room, Harry Hill's Dandy is the most seized upon and copied-from. In fact if anyone's offering any off-sale co...

Re: Latest Circulation Figures July10 to Dec 10
Very promising figures for The Dandy. Unless it means they were really starting to love Xtreme, and the sales plummet from October! (Only joking) DWA vs DWM is odd. I'd expect it to be the young kids (DWA) who lost interest when Doctor Who was offscreen, and the fanboys (DWM) to be desperate for stu...

I was asked to pitch for the Aagh strip in DWA but didn't get the gig. My 4 sample scripts, in my usual biro style, can be seen here: http://utproductions.co.uk/drwho8.html (click and the next one comes up) And one of my Where's Wally style spreads is here: http://utproductions.co.uk/drwho7.html Kev F

Re: Beano Annual reviewed in Private Eye!
What a cynical piece. The reviewer sounds like he just wants the world to be like it was when he was seven. Have you never read this forum? I thought that was our default setting. Kev F (Who doesn't want the world to be like when he was seven, cos we didn't have colour telly then and I still had to...

Unpublished treats, Roger & Plug
Here's a seasonal treat for comics fans, a couple of hidden gems I just found in the files while sorting out (for a new strip I'm drawing for a major publisher to see print in less than a month, stay tuned). These two strips were intended for The Beano but, for reasons I've never quite found out, th...

Re: This weeks Dandy
I guess it was the rare chance to thumb through Toxic that made me more aware of its contents. Not bad, though strips few & far between. Which is, of course, why we're all praising the Dandy.

Re: This weeks Dandy
Really? Is that right? was there a strip by me in the last issue of Toxic? the current issue is bagged with sponge bob on the cover. It's highly unlikely that it was me, but it's not un-possible. What was the strip about? I'll tell you if it really was me. Thumbed through it in the shop, clearly gu...

Re: This weeks Dandy
Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, who's seen this week's Toxic? - No plastic bag so you can flip through it in the shop - Harry Hill on the front cover - Harry Hill comedy pages inside - Simon Cowell based comedy inside - and even strips by Lew Stringer, Laura Howell & Nigel Auchterlou...

Re: Dandy Relaunch THIS WEDNESDAY!!!
Interesting that, despite the ballot stuffing and multiple voting, the positions remain the same?
When will we learn the results that count, ie the sales figures. We've had 6 weeks now, that's when you start to get returns figures isn't it?

Re: Dandy Relaunch THIS WEDNESDAY!!!
Speaking as someone whose strips regularly topped The Beano's online poll, I can say there's no direct correlation between being topping online polls and being dropped. :) Kev F edited for accuracy (within the discussion on this page, at least!) :) I was going to say "mieow", but what I think you'r...
